Default Who is my visitor?

Arty, can you help. I have another myserious brown pigeon on my roof. This is not the same one I named Butterscotch. This one is larger and the breast is very big with a purplish burgundy color.

BEAUTIFUL DOVE! I lived all of my life in Jersey up until 2 years ago and never saw one dove anywhere in the State! I did not think they could survive the cold winters there but I guess they can. Looks like they found a cozy inviting place at your home. The ones on your Arbor are cute too!

What a pretty Pigeon! Among the ferals I have seen around here, I've never seen one with that coloration. Seems fairly rare to see one with any appreciable brown color on it at all, most seem to be variations of gray, with the occasional white.

Those birds are actually called RED, even though they are brown....wish I knew why...
Is the bird banded, someone near you is a free flyer...I sense there is a loft near by....
Feral Pigeons fly in flocks, where as the loft birds tend to stray...seems you have had 2 visitors recently, this tells me there's a loft near by....
You can see all the different color's within a feral flock in this picture.

I couldnt see a band but then again, he sat with his right foot tucked, so I couldnt tell. This was very clearly a different bird than the first though. This is really out of the blue! I guess there could be a loft since theres lots of farm land here. This is the first Im seeing pigeons in this are though.

Hmmmmm, you sure about the first time for these visitors, or the first time you have noticed your visitors?
Farmers, you live in the country?
Many farms have pigeon flocks, I have met some farmers and asked them if I could release pigeons there.
I found this one farm, a whole huge building full of old tractors, and Pigeons nesting all over the place, the flock was about 60 strong, this farmer was very nice and gave me permission to release birds there, plenty of grain, a stream nearby, the natural preditors keep things in check...
As a Rescuer and knowing how many rescues come my way each year, I knew I would be in trouble soon with only so much loft room, so I had to find a safe haven for my rescues to be released, there are 3 grain elevators here with pigeon flocks, these are my second choice, the farms are my main hope.
I never just release, I ask the farmers first.
Could be there's a feral flock around your home, I thought you lived fairly close if not in a city.
But someone close has a flock of Pigeons.

This area is a mix of suburban surrounded by farm land just recently developed. Its rural within a half mile. Theres lots of really big farms close by. Im sure Ive never seen them before. Ive lived here almost 20 years. I grew up in Phila so the first thing I noticed here was a lack of them and was fascinated by the Mourning Doves. Maybe soemone has recently added a flock. I plan to keep my eyes open though. I wonder why they picked MY roof!
