Subject: Emergency DOVE Surrender

Hello,

I work with a parrot rescue out of North Alabama. We have been notified
of
a situation involving 20-25 doves and pigeons that need to be
relinquished
soon. We do not have the facilities to care for them and are attempting
to
find a rescue who does.

The doves are currently in an unheated location and their owner has
died.
The family is doing what they can, but it's simply not in the animals
best
interest to stay there. They are stable for the time being, but when
they
need to be moved it will need to be done quickly. Whoever takes them
will
have to be court approved.(The judge will have to decide if they can
donate the "property" or if the family must sell them.) I may be able
to
help some with travel, but I don't know how close I can get to you.

Please let me know ASAP if there if you guys can help or if you know of
a
facility closer that can help.

Thanks!
Jennifer Lenz
Director of Education and Outreach
Parrotsr4ever Avian Rescue and Sanctuary.

From up here, the only way is shipping, I have offered to take the Pigeons.
Pigeons can tolerate the cold, the Doves can't and need a heated facility.
I simply don't have the means to help right now.
I can't efford the shipping, all I can do is cross post and forward the e-mail to different groups.
A heart breaking e-mail for this man.

what if you could pay for shipping? Then what? Maybe everyone could contribute a little and it would add up to be enough...? I know I could throw in some $. Just a thought.

I have cross posted the e-mail to some Alabama Pigeon Fanciers.
Shipping will cost around $50.00 per bird, Not to many people will help (if any)as far as covering the cost to help these birds, just a reality...
The e-mail also mentions legal matters, I think it would be best to wait and see what happens.
I think these birds would fare better if someone from that state would stand up for them, shipping in this cold weather may not be possible.
I think the person knows by now I am from Minnesota and hopefully know of someone in Alabama that can help, Sadly I simply can't help these birds.
Wish I could.
The post office won't ship live animals in this cold weather anyways.
Mention the need for the rescuer to cover the cost and the door is closed very quickly unto these birds....very sad....but real...
When I hear an update, I will post..

Its been a day with no sleep, I found myself dealing with folks I would rather not deal with, but put aside my differences to help the Doves and Pigeons.
So far no update, its been a day of mass e-mailings to Pigeon groups and sites.
Apparently these birds are caught up in legal matters with a bank trying to get there money back from a person no longer alive, go figure.
The value of these birds life, The pigeons, maybe $10.00 a bird, No mention to how many are Pigeons.
Doves, Depending on the breed, Doves can sell from $20.00 to $60.00 per bird.
The only reason for the price differentual is the Doves can be ate, for 2 oz. of breast meat...
Now tack on the politics of banks trying to get a few bucks and where does this leave the birds...in trouble.
The Doves will perish if something isn't done and done soon.
Shipping, Shipping cost money and takes time, the shipping boxes cost $12.00 for a 2 bird box, and $20.00 for a four bird box, then the time to fold them out, take them to the post office, 2 day shipping at $27.00 per bird, (they go by weight), In this cold, one will be lucky if the post office will even ship.
I appreciate everyones concern, your kind offers are remarkable, the political agenda simply are not in favor for these birds.
I can only pray there are folks that fancy Pigeons down in Alabama that come to the rescue of these birds.
Now that I have had to close the National aspect of my rescue efforts and ask the finder of these birds to cover the costs of shipping the bird to me, doors have been closed unto these birds, its out of my hands.
I have done all that I can do...

New York Bird Rescue for disabled and injured birds,Bald eagles, falcons

Hi Crystal
This is Arty from BrokenWing Pigeon Rescue & Rehab.
Thank you very kindly for the contacts, I will follow up today.
I contacted my post office, Shipping is very iffy right now here in Minnesota, below freezing wind chills.
I am very worried about the Doves, Pigeons are hardy birds, Doves are not so.
Many Pigeons have come my way VIA shipping over the years, I also have contacted some Pigeon Fanciers in Alabama, lets pray we find help for these birds of peace.
Take Care
Arty
