#1 | | | Update on Prissy! Hi Arty! I was sitting here reading the Pigeon posts, (I haven't posted much myself) - it occured to me just how darn lucky I am to have found ya back then Arty! I'm remembering when we found Prissy and what bad shape she was in, and how scared she was. And how scared I was! Not knowing what to do. Now, however, my friends tell me Prissy is the luckiest pigeon around! haha! Yep, she's spoiled. (I was reading the post you wrote Arty about how their personalities reflect the fact that they are well fed, and taken care of and they take advantage of that - hee)
Anyway, I just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know how awesome she really is. Funny gal. We made it through the winter with her staying inside with us, which I thought she'd hate because she's wild, but instead, she has become quite accustomed to hanging out with me in the kitchen while I cook dinner (yep, alot of little poops to clean up, but whatever-she just hangs out in one spot on the tile floor). Now that is is warmer, we've been letting her run around out back for a bit each day. So, last week, she was out and it was about 5-ish, so it was getting dark. As soon as I noticed, I went to the door, and she was standing right there waiting for me! My WILD pigeon! I opened the door, and SHE hopped up on the step and walked into my kitchen! HILARIOUS. Since then, she has made a habit of running in the house when I open the door - too funny. She also has taken to "singing" when we watch TV, I have her kennel facing the tv (don't laugh - I do it with all my animals), and she seems partial to any show that plays music, and she dances around and coos. She also does this for my dog who hates her, not sure about that one. She is letting me pet her, even though she doesn't exactly enjoy it...yet. But, anyway, we just sort of have a mutual living arrangement, and she's told me how it's gonna be. I respect that in a pigeon. hehe. She's grateful to us I know, and we just love having her here. I don't know what we'd have done without you helping me and supporting me Arty! We know now that, she walks just fine on her foot, it has healed, but she will never fly again.
Thanks again everyone - I haven't posted on here enough to be remembered, but I remember you guys, especially you Arty!!! Take care, Jodee |

Sounds like Prissy is a male, and please don't be mistaken, your little friend loves you dearly.
I enjoyed your story so very much.
Only a very special person can win the love of a wild animal, you have earned the attention from Prissy and I know I am very very proud of you and all you have done to win that little ones heart.
We leave the TV on here during the day when we are gone, and both bird rooms have color TV's, so don't think thats strange, or maybe we both are .
Keeping our home and all our birds clean takes a lot of hard work, and keeping my Pigeon Sanctuary clean can be extremely hard especially during the winter months but I never take my labor in vain, Its all done out of love and my passion for birds.
I know sometimes it can get bothersome to keep up with the droppings but please keep up the kindness.
Is Prissy safe while being outside?
He/she can't fly so I am a little worried.
Just my nature Jodee...
I really can't say enough, its so very nice to hear from you!
Peace
Arty

haha! How did I know you were going to tell me Prissy is a...boy? I knew it. I guess Prissy is Petey now. Oh well.
Yes, he is safe, he stays mostly on the covered porch, or in the dog run, and only when we are out and about - never all alone. My daughter loved to play with him and he even lets her "catch" him. We've taken to "animal proofing" any and all areas of the yard where uninvited visitors can sneak in. A real great way to keep him safe is to put him in the enclosed dog run, and then let the dogs run outside the dog run. He doesn't seem to scared of the dogs at all anymore, in fact, I think he might be making fun of my little dog who wants to get him - he dances around and teases him. Spirit doesn't seem to mind it either anymore. Cliff has agreed to covering the top of the dog run with something...I don't know, like maybe chicken wire? Any ideas? So he can stay out more, like if we aren't able to stay out there for some reason. We also have his big cage that Cliff hung from the patio, which is completely safe now. And, of course, now that we is friends, he will be sleeping inside at night ALWAYS, and helping me with dinner and the like.
I hear you talk about a pigeon sitting on your lap or whatever, I hope someday he trusts me enough to do that! How exciting! He's SOO SWEET! When the lovebirds sing, he coos, it's so funny. He's much nicer than the lovebirds too. haha! Gosh, it's GREAT to hear from you Arty! I love reading your posts, and everyones! |

#6 | | | Re: Update on Prissy! Hi Arty! Well "Sneaky" just appeared one day in my loft, I tried my best to control my birds during the winter, I rarely allow breeding here, so I place fake eggs under those that lay, well "Sneaky", snuck in there somehow
I don't know the birds sex yet, all I know is one day I was checking on my birds and this little one ran and hid, I counted all my birds and said "no way", but there he/she was hiding, so I named the little one "Sneaky".
Talk your husband into building a Pigeon loft and I will send you a mate for your little friend... |
