So there is 2.
There maybe problems with the second, (runt).
The hen will lay 2 eggs, but will not sit on the first until the second has been layed to assure both eggs will hatch within a certain time of each other.
The eggs are layed one day apart.
I know what your thinking is, the first egg won't develope enless it is kept warm, well this isn't the case, only they know how to do this safely so both hatch within a certain time of each other, even though they are layed a day apart both will fledge at the same time.
I knew there had to be a second baby in the nest....
As they grow the parents will perch very close but there simply won't be room in the nest but for the 2 fledglings...
Good eye Leigh!

I am leary of the second little one, I suspect there will be problems (maybe).
If possible please keep an eye on them, within 2 weeks time fledge will begin, if there is a problem your help maybe needed, I sure would hate to see that little fall silent even if he-she is a runt, or worse yet fall silent in the claws of a stray cat.
Something just seems wrong here concerning the second little one recently descovered, sure hope I am wrong..
Well, Its time for lunch and bed, gotta work tonight, so be good to each other.
Peace
Arty

Can you see both babies here? Just before dusk they were both up. The second is now sitting stronger just after a few hours.

Woke up to find both babies sitting up and alert in front of Lady. The runt made huge growth progress overnight. I went back for pics but she was on top of them again. I hope to have some today though.

Didnt see Butterscotch again though.

Hey Arty, do Doves hatch more than one clutch in a season? I'm thinking this must be a second clutch for her? Seems awfully late in the season to be starting, but I'm a lot further north than you, Leigh. Our Swallows and Martins are long gone already, and I expect to stop seeing the Hummingbirds any day now.

Doves breed like rabbits, so your probubly correct, the mated pair have more than likely produced a couple of clutches this year.
These birds migrate, so soon enough they will be heading south towords the warmth.

My doves never leave. I have them all year long even when its snowy and icy. I have pics of them walking across the iced over pond!
