It has been pouring here in Norhern Florida since last night. I just happened to see Abi out the window flying up high in circles in the pouring rain. I think she tried to show up on that canopy but it is all soaking wet. Wonder where she goes in this rain? I saw her flying in a different direction up high....looks like she landed in one of the high pine trees. I put a dry towel out on that canopy but that will probably freak her out! Sorry to vent everyone..but I am just a worried Mom! Arty? I know you understand!
Sometimes I am tempted to trap her and keep her safe so I do not have to worry! Selfish but safe for her! Could I do that Arty?
I can see she will never use any housing that I build. She has a one track mind...she will never accept any kind of change especially homing at night.
I have been putting a big dish of seed by that shed.....nope....she does not want to know anything....she sits and coos until I bring her dish up on that canopy.....she is so cute!

I have always felt so bad for all of the wild birds around here during the rain and thunderstorms and wonder where they go. I get visions of birds sitting up in trees and just getting soaked by the rain and having to sit there with no place to go and it makes me sad hopefully Arty will be along soon and tell you if there's anything you can do during the bad weather. Hi Deb....Same here!
I think she went up in one of the pine trees here...was out looking but I do not see her. Birds have a wax like coating on there feathers so for them it is like us wearing a raincoat (waterproof)...but still I know she is hungry and wants to come down to eat. Well, I will just worry until rain stops and the canopy dries out so she can land. Until then.......I worry!
Thanx for your concern... I feel for all the other birds too and yes, you do wonder where they all go in the rain!

Abi is full of Mystery.
Sometimes I stand holding one of my birds and look out, its 30 below wind chills with blowing snow, I think of the little ones outside, there struggle...
When driving and seeing 10 or so Feral Pigeons hudled around the chimneys trying to stay warm, food is scarce, water is unheard of, and they begin to pray that they survive...
I wish you could provide some other form of protection, what ever changes you make will only spook Abi, She has told us this in the past, she is set in her ways (independant).
She finds shelter within a tree near you, she has her head tucked down under her wing, settled in to weather the storm.
Abi has endured much, Abi is Wonderful...she is free and she loves Donna.

Well, Abi landed in late afternoon when the rain let up a bit. It is dark and has been pouring nonstop for hours now...Abi is still here after dusk. I think the weather is too bad for her to fly off!
I am going to plant an 8 foot pole in cement in the yard by her flight path and put atop a nice Dovecoat for her...it will be there if she needs it...if not maybe other birds will use it! At least I tried! I will feel much better that there is protection from the weather if she needs it.
