Default Pigeon Down/New Jersey

A very sweet person named Michelle called while I was sleeping and spoke with my wife, when I woke I returned her call.
Michelle has found a pure white pigeon that was released during a special event at a church near her home, the bird was cowering behind an air unit for days before Michelle captured the little one and brought him-her home.
The bird is safe and eating well, but is emancitated.
Thank you Michelle for reaching out to help the bird of peace.
We spoke for quite awhile on the phone, Michelle told me a story of her younger years and caring for a grey Pigeon, I informed her how to properly care for her new friend.
Michelle stated that she tried other places such as The Humane Society, a Wildlife Center, both turned the bird down when saying they would kill him/her.
The janitor of the Church told her to release the bird and let the Hawks kill it.
Michelle was very upset with the responces she received concerning this little Pigeon.
She states there are many chicken hawks around that area.
I offered Sanctuary to the Pigeon but the more I spoke with Michelle The more I sensed she would like to keep the bird and care for him/her, so we talked about the proper sized cage and out of cage time and the proper diet and water depth, we taliked about mites/lice/and some diseases to be weary of but not afraid, I assured her that I was always here if she needs help.
I asked Michelle to join us here on ParrotChatter, this is when she said that she had also spoke to some Parrot People and they told her to kill the bird that is was just a flying rat.
Michelle was surely upset, I do hope she joins us here, I informed her there is much information to help her, there are very kind people here that will go out of there way to help her if needed.
Good luck to you Michelle and your new little friend!
Arty

Michelle, if you read this, thank you for caring for that bird with so many strikes against it. The people on this board are really nice and helpful if you decide to keep it, they will tell you everything you need to know.

She mentioned the town, but we spoke for such a long time, I have forgotten the name.
Very well said Lavender, Those were my exact words, Michelle simply ran into many closed doors as she searched for help and felt what these birds endure.
She presented herself as such a sweet person on the phone, when I mentioned shipping and the costs I sensed she didn't want to risk shipping.
She said she had helped a Pigeon in her younger years that was injured very badly, apparently the bird lost one leg, but oneday he/she flew off.
I could sense tears.
But as we spoke she became more confident, I gave her my e-mail and she wrote down ParrotChatter.com along with my phone number.
She tried many places, as I have said even a Parrot Rescue place.
I want you all to know, I did assure her not everyone hates these birds, and there are many Parrot People here on PC that will help all animals & Birds.
I really hope she joins us!
Take care everyone.
Arty

If she should call, give her the link for Cedar Run if she is near south jersey. They take everything. If the bird is that bad she might need them. They are really wonderful there.

I'm so glad she is caring for this little guy. Poor thing- huddled under an air unit... I hope we see her here.

Actually she said there were 2 to begin with that after being released stayed at the church, I guess one decided to try and find his-her way home, no bands which is highly unusual even for special events release, even those birds are banded with solid colored bands...no numbers.
She said the Hawks were so thick around there, she said she counted 3 alone in one tree near the church.
I said "thats why the bird was hiding behind the air unit".
She said the bird doesn't appear sick, just starved...
Anyways.....Soon I will be posting pictures of Roxannes little rescue "Boyd"
The hard part is catching him, my loft is very large and he runs fast, I don't want to scare him to much, he's just settling in, I will take a towel out with me tommorow after work and see how he does, then it will be a question of getting him to stand still for a photo setting..
Time for me to get some zzzz's
