I would be a little leary concerning the carpet, the fibers, if Olives pecks at it could cause medical issues...just a thought.
When birds came into our world, we tore all the carpeting out, so just a heads up, you might wish to remove the carpeting off the box, and this also will help with the cleaning issue.
If possible only use 100% cotton, otherwise her little talons will snag.
It maybe best to place newspapers on the grate of the cage, and a T-shirt in her box this will also be a great help to you during cleaning.
Please let me know if you are able to feed olive, if needed I will drive down.
Arty

I tried to feed her again this morning and it was unsuccesful. She begs and nuzzles and seems ready but when I hold her head and bring the syringe near she wiggles her head away. I have tried holding her head a bit more and she still pulls away. I haven't seen her eat seed or drink water in any significant way yet. She is active and alert and energetic and pooping regularly, deep green color, not a lot of wettness(urate?).
If she is pooping now does that mean she has eaten seed or is it from her last hand feeding? I am kind of beside myself here I don't want to force feed her, she is just getting to know me.

Arty, do the same toxic concerns; carpet out-gassing, teflon, candles and such apply to Pigeons as they do Parrots?

she just pooped again and it had some wettness. I guess last time I didn't see it. Does that mean she drank water since her feeding with you Arty? The firm part is darker green than yesterday at the shop and more firm.

Another issue briefly, I noticed Olive would fluff her feathers often, This kinda worried me...but for the most her feathers should lay down, try peeking in on her without her seeing or hearing you, watch her for awhile, she should not be fluffed and she should be eating, if she sees you and or hears you, she will begin to beg and maybe fluff.
If she seems fluffed up most of the time then somethings wrong.
Also...she needs a bath, I use a kitty litter pan filled half way, I add one tablespoon of Borax per gallon and mix into the water well....Olive has never bathed on her own so you will need to help her, give her a good soaking up under her wings, a good soaking period.
A bath should be offered once a week after she settles in.
One more thing, locate a certified avian vet, one never knows when one will be needed.
Peace
Arty

Yes that carpet neds to go, You will need to feel Olives crop, it should feel empty, squishy, the mass within her chest was well established so it was getting harder and harder to tell if her crop was empty.
Is she fluffed?
Her stools will be loose, while she is on Kaytee, the stools will change when she begins eating seed on her own, then they should appear firm, the watery part will be her urine, to solid all the time (not good), to runny all the time (not good) unless its from the hand feeding, again this will be something to watch closely after she is completely weaned.
Another issue we should concider, Olive is used to me feeding her, she may not trust you as of yet.
I honestly had no problem, When I grabbed the back of her head and neck she opened her beak right away, another thing to concider, Olive bagan fighting the feedings as short time ago, this told me it was time for weaning to begin, she acted hungry and begged but faught more.
Try doing as I have mentioned above, birds act totally different when they are alone, it will be this alone time that will tell you the most as to what is happening.
Be sneaky, don't be heard or seen and just watch her for awhile.

I have an avian vet all lined up, she has already seen Olives picture.
So...I will remove the carpeted house. I only got it because I saw another pigeon person who did this and said the birds loved it...I haven't seen her peck at it. She isn't fluffing all the time. Most of the time her feathers are laying smooth.
I don't think she is feeling un-well at all here, just not familiar with me when I try to feed her and I am not familiar with her and how to feed her. She is snuggly cute adorable interactive tame wonderful, just hungry and obviously something I am doing or not doing is making it so she won't comply & allow feeding.
I am still wondering if she is getting some food/water based on her poopies....what do you think?

Thank you Karen, Fabreeze, scented candles, teflon, carpeting things to give you a heads up, no I don't want you to tear out your carpeting, but keep an eye on Olive so she doesn't get fibers into her digestive system.
The carpet in her cage is something she will peck at, it should really be removed.
You have her in her own room, don't use air fresheners, scented candles or any toxins, clean her cage with bleach water and or dish soap and rinse well.
I think Olive is eating more seed than we know, according to what I saw in her cage while she was here told me this.
This will also explain why she refuses to eat.
Sooooo...best to simply watch her from afar right now without her knowing you are there.....
