I am also reading all appears fine, this is good!
Both male and female will have the coloration in the neck area.
The best way to tell the different sex is by the birds actions, the female is timid, the male struts, bob's his head, and coo's more than the female.
If the bird appears fine and all seems okay, then release the bird.
If the bird seems (in-coherent) less active than normal, then you may wish to hang onto the little for a few more days to assure all is fine before release.
