Default Oh Arty..... Dove question

I think I remember something (but I forgot) about the color of red on their legs. I have 4 (well 30 or so) but these four seemed to be super glued together. They walk 4 abreast and trot out over the back yard and eat their wheat bread. 2 of them have light red legs and the other two have dark red legs. Doesn't that show the age or what? I bet you know! Thanks J

Hi Jess,
The Morning Doves leg will vary from a bright red to an orange in coloration, this isn't really associated with age but rather "genetic trait".
According to "standards" set upon the ring neck Dove, a bright red leg coloration is high standard.
Legs "should" be short and sturdy, bright red in color, free from feathers.
Here's a good link to help.

When the Dove breeder shows off there birds at a show, the judges set "standards".
These same "standards" apply within the Racing Pigeon industry.
Also when judging Fancy Pigeons.
Sadly Jess, many little birds are put down when not meeting the breeders standards.
Sooooo my dear friend, enjoy those Doves, they are free from such "standards"....
Peace

Arty
