Such a unique relationship, I pray it never ends.
Its ruff dealing with wildlife, trying to make sure everyone gets there share, somethimes....the more we try and control...the more they become un-controllable.
There's a mated pair of Ducks that return here every spring, I place two large tubs of water out for them and do my best to place seed out for them to eat, the squirrels are so many here, sadly they get most of the seed, I have to find solace in that, at least they get fed.
I take the seed that our birds don't eat, sift it well and offer that to the animals outside.
The squirrels are many in numbers, can't count them anymore.
I have been thinking about a relocation program, we live close to the Mississippi, a very large nature trail along the river.
This park goes for 20 miles or so.
Hardly any birds come here anymore, I may start to live trap the squirrels and relocate them, I kinda have mixed feeling about this.
It was nice to hear from you Donna, Abi is very very beautiful.

Arty, I was thinking about doing the same thing with the squirrels here. I started feeding only two for the longest time....now there are over a dozen. The minute I put Abi's seed out they chase him. I did not even see Abi yesterday. He gets no peace to eat. I have to stand out there with a water pistol and squirt the squirrels. It might sound mean but the squirrels are used to it now and the water does not even scare them off anymore. I tried the plastic pvc piping with plywood and the seed dish on it up high but Abi will not go there. He only goes to that canopy. The squirrels are waiting on the overhang from the roof of the canopy for me to put the seed there, the minute I do they jump down at Abi and scare him off. I am trying to think of some other way to feed Abi right now. I have not seen him yet today. He usually shows up to eat and off he goes, no hanging around anymore because of the squirrels. I might see if I can get ahold of a trap and start moving them elswhere. I have one squirrel that has been here for a year, he actually climbs up on my screen window and looks in for me! Yikes!

I know what ya mean girl.
One day I found a squirrel sitting on top of Tanks cage, little bugger chewed right threw the screen.
I really don't like the idea of having to relocate them, but there numbers are getting to many, and as you say, not many birds come here to eat anymore, those that do don't get much.
I know Home Depots sell a "Have A Heart" live trap.
Me, I build my own.
I simply can't think of any other way to solve the problem.
