Thanks, Arty.
I've learned that the more comments an article attracts, the more likely the newspaper will run a follow-up article. So please tel people to keep piling on the comments! Direct demands of our mayor Mark Hawke to implement a city-wide ordinance that bans Avitrol and other killing means will be the only way I can get this to stop. Pre-election he was of course very interested, but now that he's in office and bogged down with a difficult budget and other duties he has decided to paw this off to the Board of Health, and that understaffed and overworked department will put this at the bottom of the pile if I don't keep the heat on him.
Thank you to all who care about animals, for ultimately that means that you also care about your fellow humans. Poison does not dissipate into outer space, it stays right here on earth and finds its way back into our own bodies. I often wonder how many of the "deficiencies" such as Attention Deficit Disorder and other mental illnesses can be attributed to poisons and other chemicals that have been spread all around us for decades.
By killing animals and destroying habitats we are ultimately killing ourselves. The greenhouse effect is melting the arctic and antarctic ice at a rate ten times faster than had been originally estimated, and it will be in our lifetime that we will see coastlines, and with it entire cities, disappear into the oceans. It may well be that the human race, with all our so-called intelligence which we have used mainly to exploit and destroy, rather than to appreciate and preserve, our beautiful planet, may yet turn out to be the most short-lived species in this universe...
Happy New Year to all living things!
