#4 | | | Re: Arty...need info.asap Abi has had an encounter with a preditor, set a box trap Donna, don't feed Abi, Don't offer seed, let Abi become hungry, then set a box trap with stick and string, tape something heavy ontop the box to make sure it drops fast and will not be able to be tipped over, place a handful of seed twords the back of the trap, not near the stick, wait for Abi to go under and pull the string, tie the string onto the end of the stick that will be touching the ground.
Abi is very fortunate to be alive, I am willing to bet he stays under the canopy tonite, but Abi will need to feel hunger in order to catch him.
If you are able to catch Abi, Take the bird in the house or the shed right away and close off anyway out, check him over very well for any signs of cat attack or any attack.
Abi needs to be caught and looked over extremely well...
Things to have on hand, dawn dish soap, Neosporin, Lets pray Abi can be caught, cat saliva is deadly to birds, Call your pet shops, ask for antibiotics.
I don't know what available down there, best to call around and ask.
I am not seeing any blood, but I am only seeing part of the bird.
Catch Abi Donna....
Then get back to us...there's more folks here that can help, Winged Victory is one, Barbra from Second Chance is another, screen Name Chance.
I am very tired and will be laying down to rest very soon...
Sooooo do your best to contain Abi....
Good Luck

Doesn't look like it will work to me. Besides, you said Abi is spooked now, however hunger may cause him to get over his fear and go back to the awning or nearby ground to eat and drink??
You might want to rig up another larger trap (or couple more) to try and catch Abi on the ground. Lead him under the top of the trap with a line of seed or whatever he likes to eat. As Arty said, put most of the feed towards the back of the box or whatever you use. Try and find/make an appropriate trap size for his size.
I would get him to an A.V. (best) asap - unless you can't afford it if your area vets are the type to rip you off - like many I am accustomed to, then you might choose not to do that? Maybe you have injectable Baytril around (check expiration date of course)... You can (as you prolly know) put the injectable Baytril into formula (may need to disguise taste) and tube/gavage feed him carefully. Gary or Arty may be your best bet (other than a vet) to check with regarding the schedule/dose/administration of the drug. I am not sure if vets are using anything better than Baytril these days for this type of problem/cat's saliva etc...
The wing may be fractured (prolly not broken though if he can fly into a tree). Or maybe the support for the wing is damaged (muscles, tendons, ligaments etc.?). May possibly heal up like new, in time, on its own if he is kept safe and calm without being able to thrash around but best to maybe have a vet check that out - x-rays may be needed). A budgie I rescued from a cat's mouth was able to do just that without seeing a vet but it is a gamble. You might luck out and he might be ok, if no bacteria has gotten into his system but I think best not to gamble on that if you can catch him.... Only your call if a possible risk of him flying away due to you trying to trap him, is worth it. Arty will prolly give you the odds on that happening. I wouldn't know.
Good luck. Btw, you may want to have an appropriate sized net around to help if you are good at swinging the thing fast enough. There is a knack to that.
