Not Arty here Donna but I would lower the height of the box some and make sure a heavy weight is securely affixed to the top (maybe you have already done that, I can't see the top on the outside)... When you pull the string (pull super quick and make sure the stick will not catch on the box near the top) - btw, I would lower the string to near bottom of the stick and if ya have some clear fishing line instead of white string, better to use that - also if ya can find a wider box, that would help too IMO. You want the box to fall really fast, otherwise Abi may likely get away before trapped. Once he develops a fear of the trap box (it may only take one failure, maybe two for that to happen), then it will be difficult to get him to go under again I think.

Note: I would increase the odds of catching him by waiting till he is pecking at the seed and not pull the string as soon as he goes under the box - ever micro-second helps. Good luck.

Ok....here is the final wider box.

Just finished working on that shed....got some wood cut in Home Depot before and nailed perches on. Hope I did at least this right! Abi has not come off that canopy yet and it is 6:30pm. He must be hungry by now. He will be leaving soon so I do not think I will get him until tomorrow. Will keep my fingers crossed. Thanx again everyone!

Thanx Lavendar, I will need the luck! I was surprised to see Abi fly off in total darkness tonight! Looked like he was gonna stay. I saw his flying was way off...not smooth. I will pray he makes it back tomorrow..
