Default Setting up Nestbox?

Hi all...

So I've set up nest boxes for my two pairs of linnie breeders, and there is a slight gap from the cage and the box where I hung up the box... Is this going to be a problem? (It wasn't an issue with my tiels, but Linnies are slightly smaller...) I don't want them to get out of the cage- but I'm not sure the gap is even big enough!

Thanks,

Jen

So, why not just reduce or eliminate the gap to get rid of that concern. A pic or two will be helpful in getting you some suggestions on how to do that.

If the gap is no bigger than the size of the cage bars, then I can't see as it would be a problem. However if they are bigger, it may be more of a problem. Some measurements would be handy, and yes some piccys too if possible. You could also post some extra pictures of the whole set up too, as pics are very popular here!

I'm guessing it either looks like this:

Or this:

So there is a gap either because the nest box doesn't cover the whole hole, or it is not sitting flat against the side of the cage. Do either of these look anything like what you have got?

But, please, allow me a question that have nothing to do with yours? Are you located in the Southern Hemisphere? Because, if you are not, this is the wrong season to breed birds and it'll behoove you to wait until spring. You can deplete your birds if you breed them offseason.

Hmm it says IL. That's Illinois right? Well regardless of whether it is or not, that's still not the southern hemisphere. In which case, stop!

Sorry I didn't follow up to this post-

It looked like the second picture- and then I figured out to to get it to sit flatter on the cage so there hasn't been a problem.

The breeder that I got them from(who seemed experienced?) said that he thinks that they seem more comfortable with the boxes up all the time, even if they aren't breeding (which I didn't think they would due to the light cycles?). My tiels would always breed in the spring, so I was figuring that the linnies would be the same.... But should I take the boxes down???

Thanks!
-Jen
