New baby suns taken out 26th December 2007

Today I took some babies from the nest boxes to handraise. The oldest baby (a Peanut sibling) hatched on 11 November 2007. This baby is already 7 1/2 weeks old. I handled the baby while with the parents as I am now taking co-parenting one step further. Time will tell if the baby is as tame as a baby taken at 4 weeks.

It is hard to believe that the babies are only 1 week apart in age if you look at the feathers.

Cinderella & Charming seem to have given me a pied baby. I knew there was split genes but I did not realize before that they carry a fixed gene. This is the first, what seems to be pied baby from them. Notice the color.

I am hoping the baby feathers out with only the blue flights and no green.

Peanut is an excellent role model sometimes. He just loves the babies and wants to preen them. I have no idea how he knows but he likes baby suns, any other baby is to be seen off the premises. He does not like the baby IRN yet. He will also try be nasty to baby budgies. Peanut also makes sure he gets his share of formula by spoon.

I love babies.. the colors are beautiful... Can't wait to see them fully feathered...
