Default Mold and rodents in avairies, advice please.

I am doing research again. Currently I have full flight walk in aviaries with concrete floors. The new row of aviaries to be constructed I would like to have planted. My question concerns mold on the plants. I would hate to create an environment that could make my birds and babies sick. I am not worried too much about insects as we don’t have insect problems like in America. Every year I engage in rodent olympics and that is the reason for the concrete floors, the mesh is too small to allow access. My solution to this would be too burry the mesh into the ground to stop them. As babies are very sensitive I would hate to risk asper or something like it with mold.

Does anyone have advice or any comment about mold or rodent control.

Both issues will harm your birds.
I also try and provide the (mother enviroment) Plants, trees, there natural enviroment, just think of the very fragile world they live in, all the harm that can happen out in the wild.
Only offer Plants that are safe.
The mesh encloser, very small spacing or even a screen mesh (metal) as per say (fabric) could be used as a means of rodent Protection.
Mice chewed there way into my loft once, before I figured out what was happening I lost many birds.
Good Luck to you.

Sorry, forgot the mold issue,
One might try and keep the plants limited and as far away from each other as possible so the proper air and sun light can effect each plant, when there are to many plants and close together moisture is trapped causing mold to develope.
Here's a site that might be able to help you.
Gray Mold
I admire your intentions to create a natural enviroment for your birds.
Good Luck

Thanks for the link Arty. How did the mice get into the loft? I know they wont be able to come through the mesh, but I am concerned about how well they could dig a tunnel under it.

My loft used to be my hobby shop, I had to drill a small hole for the phone line, well my little friend decided to make that hole bigger...LOL
In the winter time I use straw, easier to clean, well these little guys were getting in undetected as the straw was covering the hole.
I lost seven birds before gaining control with antibiotics.
A very frustrating time for me, So I know first hand what rodents can do when gaining access to aviaries...not good...
Take Care
