I've got a male and a female. Different species, but they could....

Nope. I won't do it. Too costly to do right. I would be afraid to do something wrong to the babies... and then I wouldn't be able to let them go to their new homes. I am not willing to take on the responsibility.

Not to mention.... mine are two different species. I have met many hybrids, and I love the individuals. I wouldn't refuse one a home.... but I won't intentionally allow one to be created on my watch.

That's really tough.

I am not going to go into breeding anything. I guess it comes from all the kittens at the farm & trying to find them good homes and socialize them as well.

I certainly see the interest in breeding to improve the breed and to supply a need or for conservation.

Definitely not...for many reasons but my main one being there are too many birds in rescues and being rehomed, etc....

This is a very hard subject. I myself do not appove of mass breeding, however......... I do plan on breeding Blondie and Dagwood, for two reasons. #1. Dagwood is a Alex split, meaning he should produce a Lutino Alexandrine, of which are very rare. #2. Because I would like to have one of their children to raise. I only plan on breeding them once, and prayerfully it will produce the Lutino I'm hoping for. I know not everyone will agree with this, but that was one of the reasons behind me getting the pair. The other reason behind getting the pair was because they are rare birds, and not that many people have bred these birds.

I don't want to breed birds. I know I got 1 from a breeder, but knowing what I know now I would get a bird from a rescue. For sure my next bird (if & when I get it) will be from some sort of rescue.

I do breed a small number. It is not profitable as I choose not to force breed.

I do not have the time or background in genetics and mutations to do a good job at breeding. I don't think that bird breeds have been customized to where they have as many issues as some purebred dogs and cats, but it could happen. I will confess that my flock does seem to do it on their own from time to time, but I either keep the babies or give them to friends or family. I think there is a need for someone to be breeding birds and am not sure how we get the right system of checks and balances to get the babies at the right rate to replace those that are dying and/or get the appropriate balance. We have not done too well with our furry friends....on a global scale, we have not done too well with ourselves. Someday we will get it right!

People should not breed species that are in overpopulation and/or species that humans cannot provide adequate care for if kept as pets. And that covers all companion birds except for canaries and doves.
