I am a first time bird owner and I've waited 30 yrs to get her. She is an Alexandrine. I was too busy raising a family and couldn't devote the time that I have now, to a bird.
Notice that I call her Polly but she might end up being Paulie. I bought her at 6 months from a breeder and have had her 5 months. She learned Hello in a months time but nothing else so far. We take her back and forth with us to our Florida house. (she loves it there, but so do we, lol). I have a cage at both houses for her, and a travel cage. I wish that I could let her out of her cage without my 8 yr. old MinPin trying to go after her. I must put my dog outside before I let her out. I honestly think the dog is Jealous. But the dog gets to eat everything she flings out of the cage...she is wonderful. And I've seen some beautiful birds as well on PC. Thank you Glider for referring me and for your help... Welcome! My Trudy and Chipper are best buddies!!! Some dogs and birds cannot be together though. Just make sure the doggie gets lots of walks and attention alone.

I also have a dog who either goes outside or into a bedroom when the birds are out - better safe than sorry, and our dog has overcome any jealousy that she had at first. She has now incorporated the birds' time into her daily schedule.

Welcome and congrats on finally getting your little birdie, Polly/Paulie! I also have pups but they RUN from the room when the birds are out...hmmm, could it be that my M2 is much bigger than my teacub Yorkie!
