And what connects everyone is their love for birds. I don't know about you guys, but I think it's a special kind of person who loves birds

Well truthfully, we've had our moments ....but the rules have been expanded to define suggestions to help people not feel that just because one person thinks one thing and it's different than others that it's not personal.

That seems to be the challenge. Accepting a totally different opinion and not getting hurt feelings or mad just because it's a different opinion.

Of course for you, Sweet Marie it's not usually a problem because of your great personal verbal skills but for people like me, ha ha, I seem to ruffle feathers. (you already know that).

There's a fine line between combative and convincing I guess, and guessing if people want to know a different view or if they'd be "happier" not knowing. Just like in real live.

Coco Channel said "I am not difficult; I am definite". Maybe I should juxtapose that under my Gandhi signature

Bea has so many birds. She does a lot of rescue, animal and avian, and runs a sanctuary of sorts out of her home, in a designated bird room that she built for that purpose.

I have:
- 4 parakeets (Pepin, Elmo, Ernestine and Lilly)
- 12 teils (Lenny, Perlita, ZsuZsu, Li'l Kim, Peppy, Alba, Blanquita, Dorian, Dorothea, Fricka, Frank, Sonny)
- 7 lovebirds (Marilyn, Joe, Boudica, Felix, Rambo, Jack and Jill)
- 3 senegals (Sabu, Tobita, Elvira -but she calls herself Cowboy)
- 1 jardine (Elsie -but I call her Quichie)
- 2 Amazons (Teddy and Pretty Bird)
- 2 cardinals (Virginia and Tina)
- 4 ringneck doves (Camilla, Brownie, Ruben and Rupert)
- 2 umbrella cockatoos (Coco and Angel)
- 3 congo grays (Elliot, Sophie, Nina)
- 1 timneh gray (Pookie)
- 1 eclectus (Romeo)
- 1 blue throated macaw (Carolina)
- 16 canaries most of them Spanish Timbrados (I'll give you their names later) but I also have a Russian Singer (Ivan) and two kitchen ones (PapiChulo and Rosie)

All, except for a couple of the canaries, are rescues. And all except for the canaries (too delicate) and the cardinals and Pretty Bird (all three handicapped) are cageless and fly free in the birdroom 24/7/365.

Beatriz, how is it working out with 3 Senegals? Is one of them the one who paired up with .....was it Nina?

(the odd number got my eye amd I remember you wanted a companion for one of them...)

I am totally in awe.

I'm in a totally different 'world'. I guess i have to admit that 2 Budgies seem to be our limit for now. I am the fall back for a friend's 15 yr old Senegal 'Percey' when she can no longer care for her. I was offered a larger bird, young & well trained & flighted. My family discouraged me because of the longer commitment + we live in an apartment & they were uncomfortable with the idea of a larger bird. With Percey this will be her 4th home, when she comes to me she will be a senior like me so that's OK.

When you said all your birds are flighted in one bird room - how does that work? One of the reasons i didn't take the larger bird offered to me was fear for my pesky Budgie's feet.

It works just fine. There are plenty of perches for everybody and, except for the tiels and the budgies that are all over the place, all the other birds have their favorite and personal spots which they chose themselves and where they hang out most of the day. I don't force any of them to do anything or to go anywhere, and when you allow a bird freedom to choose what, when and how, it takes care of most aberrant behaviors by itself.

Beyond lots of freedom what other issues do you think lets them co-exist? - cage/aviary size? - environment set up so they can have their own definate areas?

Is it the 100% all the time freedom that allows this?
I've read some compelling stories about birds living together for many years - different species - one day one just lashed out & tragedy struck the other one. The larger bird i was looking at had already beaked a Love bird in it's home & the Luvie was off to the Vets luckily returned in one piece. They are not out all the time in this scenario.
