Dove are ground feeders. He will need a box with unscented, uncolored litter to mix his seed in.
Tiel pellets and seed will be a little much for him. Give him uncolored budgie seed.
Also, dove drink as if using their beak as a straw. He will need at least three inches of water in his bowl.

Do you plan on releasing him?

Hi,
Thanks for the info., back to the store today for uncolored budgie seed. And I am undediced about release. I posted a question about that in the Dove/Pigeon sections because I don't know the pros/cons of it. Did you have a suggestion on that?

Unscented litter to mix seed in? Is that what teaches him foraging? Would the seed just fall through the litter or am I picturing this all wrong? Pardon my lack of knowledge, first time to do this and I am just glad he is alive and gainging weight.

Yes, the seed will sift through. He will find it. The box should only be a couple of inches deep. You should find all the info you need in the Dove and Pigeon Forum. Also, for parasites, a bath in warm water with a bit of Borax in it will do the trick. (rinse well) Sounds like I'm giving you a recipe.
Several of us have had the pleasure of giving Pigeon a home. The Dove is very much the same.
You will find much peace having that little one around.
