One benefit of mixed trees, that that they probably won't get pulverized at the same time by various weather extremes over the years. Do you have anything that does well over there with leaf color that you can toss a few of into the row? Say purple beech?

Was west side suburbs of Portland for 40 plus years, and now in southern Oregon, near Medford. Home is for sale, and may move back. For now, we're making the best of things here.

I noticed that someone, or a few folks had Ontario as their location. That's where my mother is from - near Kenora at the edge of Lake of the Woods.
In January, I read The Wild Trees about the people who climb and research the big redwoods. 1/2 the book was about the people and their background. The wife of the one tree scientist, and herself also a professor, grew up in that same area. Kenora in winter, and on an island in summer.
It's a nice area. I remember a lot of greenery, but don't remember what kind of trees grew there. I know blueberry was abundant, and ate a lot of fresh pies from my grandmother's wood stove oven back in the early 70's when we went there 3 years in a row for a month.
