Hi & Welcome ~ Glad to meet you.

Thanks so much for the great link to safe woods. There's a lot of info on that site.

As my Dad is having to reforest the perimeter of his farm I might ask you some questions! All the Maples along the lane & road are over 80 years old & dying. I put in a bid for a mixed tree row to replace them. Would you agree? They live in Southern Ontario. I know a large grouping of one type looks impressive.

I agree about birds liking a partner. We started with one Budgie & now have 2. We got another male but it has really added to their enjoyment of everything - to have a pal to share with, fight with, fly with & preen beside. We still are close to our 1st bird and the 2nd one is slowly becoming as friendly but is way more focused on his feathered pal.

Your photo is great.

Hi! Welcome to Parrot Chatter! Thanks for the link to the great site that you've put together about safe and toxic wood. I've used it often and it's a favorite because you explain the why's.

You've got some beautiful birds!

One benefit of mixed trees, that that they probably won't get pulverized at the same time by various weather extremes over the years. Do you have anything that does well over there with leaf color that you can toss a few of into the row? Say purple beech?

Was west side suburbs of Portland for 40 plus years, and now in southern Oregon, near Medford. Home is for sale, and may move back. For now, we're making the best of things here.

I noticed that someone, or a few folks had Ontario as their location. That's where my mother is from - near Kenora at the edge of Lake of the Woods.

In January, I read The Wild Trees about the people who climb and research the big redwoods. 1/2 the book was about the people and their background. The wife of the one tree scientist, and herself also a professor, grew up in that same area. Kenora in winter, and on an island in summer.

It's a nice area. I remember a lot of greenery, but don't remember what kind of trees grew there. I know blueberry was abundant, and ate a lot of fresh pies from my grandmother's wood stove oven back in the early 70's when we went there 3 years in a row for a month.

Wow, great pic of the GCC's! I have a GCC named Peek-a-Boo. I just love him, he's such a little clown! Welcome to you and your flock, hope we'll get to see more pic's really soon.

Yes there are quite a few of us here! Ontario is a big place with lots of variety in climate & terrain.
I'm from the Southerly part - rolling hills & south of the shield.. We don't have blueberries because of the soil's PH ~ was trying to get my Dad into them but he said it wouldn't last as the soil would change back over a few years.
I'll look into purple beech - I'm not familiar with it. The Maples are getting into trouble around here with beetles & the changing climate - not enough snow in the winters now. We want some Maples again - the road was a glorious yellow every fall. In certain parts of Toronto they are having to cut most of them down to isolate the beetle - but it is probably too late.

My Grandmother was born in Montana & my cousin is in Columbia, South Carolina.~ so I have some distant connections to the US.
