Mark - not all my rescues started out that way. R2 our little BFA is in love with John and will tear my hand off if I try to get near her when he's around. An Budgie the scarlet who also loves John will attack me every chance he gets. When Budgie came to us we could work with him for months because of how bad his feathers were. I also get a lot of great advise from Barb (SCBR). I keep threatening her that when Budgie acts up I'm going to give him to her ;-)

Welcome Jeanne. Ouch for Budgie....some of these stories are so hard to take...you just cant imagine how people can let a living being deteriorate like that.

I love your write up because it expresses how even though you have alot of birds they are all out and interacting with everyone living lives...not just stuck in or on top of a cage. I bet your house is hysterical!

You have no idea what play time is like in my house ;-)

I've got hanging atoms & perches all over the place. Ciccio (b&g) loves to get on the floor and walk backwards, he'll bump into something than walk forwards, he throws balls around and runs after them. He'll also steel paper off the table to shred.

You wouldn't believe how many birds don't know how to play. They're actually scared of toys. We were told that Maverick (hy) doesn't like to play with toys - I felt like telling the woman that if she gave him something other than a big hunk of wood he might!

I believe in giving birds different types of toys with different textures. They feel with their tongues, why just give them wood...give them leather, shredder toys etc. I aways say VARIETY...my hubby says $$$$...but I don't listen to him ;-)

I will video play time so everyone can see how nuts they are.

Yes so sad. One bird here was deathly afraid of any single thing from living in an empty cage forever. He finally loosened up and accepted some things. One funny thing was him holding a small like 7 X 3 inch shred of paper in his foot on his perch, he didnt want to let it go and would carefully move from side to side of the perch gripping the pathetic piecs of paper...where previously he would be scared of paper.

Who can imagine getting to that so sensory deprived state that ANY object of ANY kind terrorizes somebirdy.

Last week I came in wearing gloves due to weather and was late and went to open cages and they all FREAKED BIG TIME until I realized it was the scary gloves....even though they knew it was me still scared them for about 10 seconds then they got over it lol....

Nice to see you here. Jeanne's Budgie, as well as her other birds, are a real inspiration to me- I see what she has done, and it fills me with hope regarding our poor, plucking Franny.
