I'm in Tennessee. To other part of your question ... long story, short version, the parents are not set up for breeding but had laid 2 eggs earlier this year which I immediately took away because I was not trying to breed them, shortly after that she laid another egg in the bottom of the cage,so I left it alone and cleaned around it (not an easy job, lol) thinking she would "get the urge to breed out of their system." There were 4 eggs total but only 1 was fertile (I found this out after the one hatched and I checked the others). So needless to say I really couldn't allow them to raise the baby in the bottom of the cage and a proper set up (nestbox) was not feasible either plus it appeared that they had not fed the baby since it had hatched, so I pulled her/him.
The majority of my parrots are what some would call "anchor birds" .. breeder pairs that have never produced when I was trying to breed them years ago. The Blue and Gold Macaw is pet, as well as a Lilac Crown Amazon, the Blue fronts are kinda tame ... depends on their mood and the time of the year, lol.
Years ago, many years ago, I wanted to breed the larger birds as well as the lovebirds. I have raised lovebirds, cockatiels, conures and pionus and have help a friend hand feed a baby macaw and amazons. My Macaw has laid eggs a couple times over the last few years but I have never really bothered looking for her a mate. My Lilac Crown had a mate years ago but would not accept him because in her eyes I am her mate .. must be love
At some point in the future, I plan to set the pairs up properly and see what happens but I'm in no hurry. If and when I raise any more parrot babies, I will either keep them or find good homes for them ... I'm very picky about my babies and that is one of the reasons I quit breeding years ago .. to many "back yard breeders" who would sell their babies super cheap and I refused to do that.
