According to the person I got him from, he has been weaned for at least 2 months. Since around 6 weeks of age. Would it be OK to keep offering him some handfeeding formula as a bonding/comfort thing, or would that cause him to regress? I have heard that some babies get so stressed they will regress back to handfeeding once in their new home.
This is my first baby, so I just want to make sure I am doing everything OK. |
Hi Freedomoflight and welcome. Congrats on the baby he's very cute. I wanted to add that sleep is really important for Parrotlets as much dark quiet sleep as you can give overnight. Not enough sleep is enough to change their whole personalities all day.
Although we follow a strict natural daylight schedule mine get at least 11-12 hours even last summer when the days were short. I used blackout drapes. Right now they retire about 5 pm and get up around 7.
Did she give you the same food she was feeding?
Both mine were very enthusiastic about fresh foods so don't be afraid to offer them. The trick may be to get him to try but you never know. Chopped small like food processor size and sweet or even red peppers. I used Goldenfeast Gardenflora soaked out of curiosity the very first day, and Piper was rolling around in it in heaven. Then I went to the store and the food fest began! They LOVE FOOD.
It's not unusual but I agree they are so small you cant risk him being off feed.
You dont have covered cups do you? Parrotlets wont use them for some reason. And I'd put them up right next to where he is hanging out.
If I can help any other way feel free to ask, they are scary at first, so small. (till they get their confidence lol)
