I am often asked what Princess Parrots are really like as very few people have been in contact with them. They are only just starting to get popular in the States.
I have two. The blue one is named Tjinimin. I got him when he was 10 weeks old and he is very friendly! The normal green one is Manikay. I handreared him when he was 3 weeks old last Christmas. He is bright, curious, fearless like Tjinimin, but ironically he isn't as friendly. Both of them will sit on me whenever THEY feel like it. Manikay won't step up but Tjinimin will most of the time. They are very entertaining and love to play with their toys!
Tjinimin is the first one to jump on me when I bring the veggies in, Manikay isn't far behind. They both like to bite my toes if I bring them in the bedroom whem I am using the laptop. Tjinimin is the most affectionate one, he gives kisses, will cuddle briefly and likes to be with me. Manikay is more aloof which is weird because I handreared him, Tjinimin was just weaned and 10 weeks. They get along well with each other and the Tiels. If they were in high school, they would be the popular kids who fit in everywhere!
Princesses are pretty laid back and non-aggressive like my Tiels. They will never attack other birds. They are much more independant then my Tiels. They do what they want, they're the first ones to jump on the food table or go for any treats I put out. They aren't afraid of Chaska and won't get out of the way if she wants to eat, they will stand their ground and eat right beside her. The Tiels will let her run them off. Fortunately there is plenty of food to go around!
I don't know if keeping them as a pair (both males since I don't breed) affects their behaviour. They don't need to defend themselves, no one ever attacks them, not even Chaska. They just aren't intimidated by here like the Tiels can be. She is actually pretty mellow for a Quaker. She gets jealous if I kiss other birds or cuddle them so I take turns bring the birds in the bedroom for quality time. They all live together in a huge indoor aviary, about 12 square yards/meters so there is plenty of room and toys for everyone.
