Heart-Stopper
I nearly had a heart-attack today. Tiana and I decided it was time to clear away some of her less-used toys (a much harder task when undertaken WITH the child there...) so we could give them to the less-fortunate kids who don't have so many. I heard a strange noise outside, Mickey and Piper were making different calls to what they usually made, and I glanced up. I can't actually see the cage from Tiana's window, it's sort-of next to her window, but I can see almost to it.
When I glanced out her window, I saw Mickey fly away from the cage, and land atop the shed roof, followed closely by another Red Rump. I should have realised then that the other RR wasn't actually Piper, but having not seen any others around here before, my heart did a back-flip, thinking they'd somehow escaped and were flying away!
So I raced outside, not having a clue how I was going to get them back. As I threw open the door, Mickey and Piper blew their raspberries at my from their cage beside the door, and the two WILD RR's flew to next-doors yard! For a minute I actually thought I was seeing things
. Apparently, Mickey and Piper were introducing themselves to their new neighbours!
I've filled the bird-bath up now, so they can have fresh water if they come back, and put it near the seed-patch that I grow for my guys. I am a little worried that Mickey may try to attack the other male if they return, since it IS breeding season now, and Piper's making her nest in the box, but there's no way they can get through the bars, and I can hear them from anywhere in the house if there's a ruckas
.
And through it all, JubJub sat inside here, trying to get everyone's attention
. Felt sorry for him, so I took him outside for a bit, too, so he could meet the newcomers if they returned
.
