Thanks for the links Tiki! I appreciate it. I think I am going to go down to the store tonight and see how well we like each other. It probably won't be love right off the bat, but maybe if I go down a few days in a row we'll see what happens.

As for you Sarah... ha ha. You probably can't tell from my typing but that "ha ha" was sarcastic. And no, I do not like the taste of my own medicine.

To say the least, these next few days should be interesting days for us both!

I have a really excited/scared thing going on. I just hope that I don't get myself all excited and either find some reason that it's definitely not going to work, or else go in there this weekend and find him gone.

Vicki, this weekend I am going to a BBQ with some Aussie bird people and Sunday there is a bird fair. I will try to get more information for you. I am really impressed by all the research that you are doing and I do think that you would be a good person to take a Rosella into your home. I would hate to see him go to some one who just wants him to match the curtains or something. Is he the only Rosella there?

Goldens do make great pets and talk very well. Depending if this one has been hand rasied or is tame. Another rosella that almost makes a good friend is an crissom. If you have tame a GSC2 that has been parent rasied. You will be fine. Thats if this one is young.

Well, I went down to hang out with rainbow boy. He was really nervous. Not into being touched that's for sure. So I didn't press the issue. But honestly I don't know the last time he was handled or what happened so I'm not ruling out taking him home just yet. I talked to the manager and she said that she won't sell him out from under me. She'll hold him for a week at least. So that's nice. Although he's already been there for months with no one interested so I don't think that would be a problem.

Yep, he's the only one there. For some reason Petco is selling them like gangbusters. I was told that as soon as they sold him they got another one in. Who has be sitting there for months also. I have never in my life seen one until now. I think just because they are so colorful and not too big. It just seems wrong though. They said that Petco had a sign up saying that he was hand raised, but who knows what the breeders idea of "hand raised" is. I think too many breeders just hand feed them quickly and then shove them back into the cage without any socialization.

Thanks for getting more research done for me Tiki!! I really appreciate it. I will be looking forward to hearing from you. I may have to stay up until 3:00 am my time waiting for you to post!

Vicki, Smiley is a friend from Australia I asked to come here and help because she knows a lot about Rosellas and all kinds of birds. If you do get a Rosella, we will make sure you have plenty of help!

Thanks Tiki and Smiley! See,that's what makes this the BEST board on the web! You guys make everyone feel so welcome and you all are actually helpful! And I haven't been edited once! (I probably shouldn't have said that but it's true.) I'll let you guys know how he comes around in the next few days. I'm going to go down there nightly so he gets used to me a bit and then maybe I'll get to see the "real" him. Now I don't want to jump the gun, but I may need help with names too... I'm told that he's a boy, but who knows. I'd like an Aborigine type name for him, since I'm native also. You know...just in case....Any ideas Aussies?

My two Princesses have Aborigine names: Tjinimin is a god and Manikay is a type of Aboriginal folk song.

Quote:
Gods from Australian Mythology...
TJINIMIN

TJINIMIN: Sex-starved Bat God.

Lust was TJINIMIN'S downfall. He just could not resist trying to get into the feathers of those Green Parrot Girls, consorts of the Great RAINBOW-SNAKE.

He was driven off with bees, they tried to drown him by diverting a river, and his biggest downfall came when he was thrown off a high cliff onto jagged rocks. But he had magic powers which were never available to Humpty Dumpty, and managed to put himself together again. Just to double check, he cut his nose off and stuck it back again. Yep — no problem.

Then he made a magic spear and went off to vent his rage on the Great RAINBOW-SNAKE. He stabbed it in the side and watched as it writhed in agony creating an interesting new terrain. In its struggles the Snake must have felt burning sensations because the next thing anyone knew was that it had dived to the bottom of the sea taking every last scrap of fire with it.

TJINIMIN gazed apprehensively at one last charred stick. This is where PILIRIN the Kestrel God comes into the story. He was a bright spark and taught humans how to make fire using only two twigs.

TJINIMIN went completely batty at this point and took to roosting upside down. Light and fire now scared him and he only wanted to look upwards at night. He decided he was never ever going to attempt sex again, and then his nose dropped off. This is why bats have snub noses.

hey vicki...sorry for chiming in a bit late here didnt even see the thread till toda... obviously its your choice but if you click with him and are ready for the commitment why not get him? dont let the avairy thing stop you...i was told on other not so nice boards obviously that i was being cruel to get marley and have him caged indoors when he was obviously an aviary bird, anyone that knows me and marley knows that he is no way unhappy, hes not as tame as say my grey but hes still wonderful and just as long as hes not caged in a tiny cage 24hrs a day then i dont see the problem...

anyway ya gotta come home with him...i want pics lol... no pressure!

Sex starved Bat God?!! Ha ha!! I'm sorry but that really made me laugh! Very cute. Thanks for the link. Very interesting site. I like it. I do like the name "Pilirin". That's a neat name. I also like "Baiame". How would you pronounce that? Are you Aborigine Tiki?
