The cage I've had for about 20 years. Once the bird room was done we knew that Ginsu would be going in there.
She calms down quickly once she's out. Come January when I'm working from home I'll be able to work with her more. She doesn't have the power in her beak the way a parrot does, she's a soft bill. You can actually use your two fingers and hold her beak closed. What she does though is grabs on to your hand, which is like being bit by a pair of salad tongs, and she shakes her head. Since her beak is serated you get little cut marks..which is how she got her name.
Rammy the male we had was with us for about six months. He was unhappy living in a cage which is why we decided the zoo would be the best place for him. He apparently is doing really well and seems to perfer having women handle him :-)
We are looking for a friend for her.
They are very curious birds and love to play with toys. I'm working on getting some different types of safe toys for her. This weekend I figured I'd try some dog toys.. you never know, she might like throwing them around.
Her diet is fruit...she loves papaya and fresh blueberries! She likes to show off and toss the food up in the air and catch it. Being in the bird room she is a social eater. In the morning she waits until all the birds have their food dishes before she starts hers. She also loves joining in with the morning "chior". She makes more of a "yelping" sound.. reminds me of a bunch of cockatiels.
