Default Toenails

So I'm having a horrible time with my Linnie's toenails. I didn't get them cut short enough the first time and they've just continued to grow. I clipped the girls the other day and had a couple bleeders (which has never happened before) that I immediately stopped with the styptic powder and they are fine... but *I* am totally stressed out about it. They have a little Jungle Talk (Parakeet size) Pediperch (I believe it's cement?) that doesn't seem to be doing anything for them. Does anyone have suggestions as to anything else I should be doing or use for them? Any help here is greatly appreciated.

My linnie's toenails grow really quickly and I clip frequently. From what I have read this is sort of the nature of the bird. I have never had a bleeder, thank goodness. I, too, use a pediperch which doesn't do much partly because she never sits on it.
Aside from frequent cllipping and using a pediperch, I don't think there is much else you can do.

Yes. linnies nails do grow quickly! In their natural enviroment they are used to walking along the tree tops which keeps their nails nice and trim.

Here's a link to a discussion about linnie nails and there is also a great article there on clipping nails here ---->

Thanks, that's a great thread. I will read it again tomorrow before I tackle my male. He's the fun one; he screams like a squeaky toy any time I clip his... wish me luck. =)

Hi Andi... sorry for the slow relpy..
The more often you cut your linnie nails the quicker the quick reseeds back... so if you cut them every other week...soon you will get shorter nails..
