Default Will I be allowed here?

Hello!

I am not sure how the group here feels about a breeder. I do breed Indian Ringnecks. I see that this board supports the Gabriel Foundation.

I enjoy my little flock of breeders. My hubby and I set up 20 different aviaries on our property each with a nest box for a single pair. There is a huge open center area in the middle of the 20 aviaries where it is considered the 'flock' space. So each pair of birds has it's own flight aviary that is connected to the larger area. I can also close off the different aviaries to pair off a single pair that I want to specifically breed. It is my masterpiece! It is as natural as I could make it, with a tree and bushes they can chew up. I love to sit inside and watch them behave naturally.

Hi and welcome to PC.
We have a few breeders here, and a wealth of knowledge.

You are welcome here. I am not enjoying a lot of success breeding ringies but they a bit young yet.

Oh good! I was hoping that I could share some knowledge and gain some from other breeders but breeding in general is such a hot topic on boards these days.

2horse, how old are the ringnecks you are breeding? None of mine are younger than 4 and I believe the oldest is 15. I have had all of them their entire lives too.

Some are 2004 and older, but I have some 2006. They are in a colony and I had the hens making the cocks life miserable. It seems I have pairs now, one egg laid so far. They are common blue intended for pets. My suns I have a lot more success with, they are all in pairs. The ringies and the budgies are my daughters breeding projects. My birds wont lose a home if they fail to breed they are just a hobby. I am in South Africa so my breeding season is a little different to yours.

Wow yes your season is different! The hens are always picking on the poor cocks, no matter what we the breeder try doing. Best I could do was to create the giant amount of room in the center so the birds could each have their own space. It has eased up of the tension but birds will be birds!

I love my ringnecks. They are so pretty and really do make great pets. However most of mine are sent off to other breeders, hoping to bring in new blood and mutations. I pull a few out to handfeed but most are left to be raised like normal 'parrots'

Are you a mutation breeder? I am beginning to head that way myself. Picked up a pair of lovely deep cobalt violet ringnecks about eight months ago. I am not putting up an hopes yet of them pairing off this season but maybe the next? I have a few cleartail mutations and a pair of rainbows. Also have the more common ones too, the greys and the blues and greens. Amazing the colors they can come up with!

The colors are good, I am not breeding for mutation. If I get good for me, but can't say I think very likely. I enjoy them because they are fairly clever, easy to keep and not so much noise if you compare them to my suns. Best of all there is never any "I can't eat this" they so easy to feed. My love is my suns.

Yes. They are so easy to feed! But feed a flock can be hard with 20 of them trying to get at the dish first, even before you have set it down. They are pigs.

Suns are so noisey but are lovely. I love how regal ringnecks look. They always have every feather perfect.

Well I have to serve lots of dishes, the girls kind of guard the dishes. Ringies have perfect feather till molting and then they look real bad.
