Any recommendations about what birds would go w/ a Poicephalus? Could those who've integrated a second parrot give some advice about what it is like to add to your feathered family?
| Hi Grinch's Mom, Welcome to Parrot Chatter! Nice to have you here! Grinch is just lovely.
I don't have any recommendations of what species would be good to add, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can help you out.
When I added a second parrot here I had some jealousy issues that we had to work through. I had an only child for a year, so he had to get used to sharing me. My two are just visual friends though, they don't play together but yet if I take one away from the other they contact call. So that makes me think they enjoy each other's company but just don't want to share their personal space.
Other than that, it's been double the work, double the trouble they can get into and double the fun!!! |

#6 | | | Re: Poicephalus + ?? Hi, and welcome to Parrot Chatter, its great to have you with us! I also have a Poi (Red Bellied), along with a Green Cheeked Conure and a DYH Amazon. I have to go along with Jim's assessment. Tausi, my Red Bellied, could care less about the other birds, other than joining them in flock noises. I'm pretty sure he'd be just as happy if they weren't around. My advice is if you want to get another bird, do it for you, and not him. Also plan on keeping them separated, and be pleasantly surprised if it works out that they get along. But don't count on it! |

But don't count on it! | Welcome to Parrotchatter, we have a great group of experienced members owned by their birds! I agree with Nate, in my experience whatever bird you get you take a chance on either Grinch not bonding to your new addition or your new addition not bonding to Grinch. They may bond, and if you do decide to add another bird, introducing them slowing and allowing them to interact at their own pace in my experience works best. |
