Tanks lost a great deal of blood, apparently he was startled and when landing on the floor he hit the bottom bar on Sammy's cage as this is where I found most of the blood.
Tanks is out of his cage more than anything, the problem is the tree right outside his window and the many squirrels outside.
We pretty much know what happened, very sad indeed.
I plan on cutting that tree down this spring, its to close to the house and is also tearing up our driveway.
At one time we found a squirrel in the house on top of tanks cage eating his seed as if he/she belonged there, this little bugger chewed right through the screen, so the tree must come down.
The vet was very honest when saying this type of injury usually requires the bird to be put down as the injury simply doesn't heal well and the bird usually looses most of his/her beak, Rose and our vet are very very close, I also volunteer at the Raptor Center as often as I can, this is where I received much of my training, so the vets there where very willing to do all they could to save Tanks.
Tanks is fairly well known here as he volunteers at shows, fairs, our bird club and many other events, He does his part to help others understand how wonderful Parrots are.
Rose Ann slept on the couch with her Tanks in the aquarium right by her side for a month.
The picture we took of Tanks in his cast turned out very blurry, I will try and take some better pictures of his beak.
He still can't eat seed very well, and he favors his beak while climbing around in his cage, the vet gave the okay to allow him back into his cage.
When eating meals with us, Tanks is a little pig, he runs back and forth from my plate to Rose Anns plate, Tanks has always been over weight, the vet said this was a plus, if this did have to happen, thank the lord he had extra weight to get him through.
For now, except the small hole in his beak all is back to normal.
Here's the blurry picture of Tanks in his beak cast, boy he sure was miserable during the month in the cast, super glue was used to hold the beak together.
During the last week Tanks refused to eat formula any longer, he would take his pain meds but that was all he would take, he decided to eat with us as usual.
Although Tanks has his own plate of pasta and veggies he likes to eat off our plates, he will see the steam and say "hot" then go over to Rose Anns plate and repeat "hot", it doesn't matter if one cools his food off and chop it up and place off to the side of our dish, he has to have what we are sticking in our mouths, so we wait until he takes what he wants before we eat.
Tanks is dominate, he makes sure that he lets me know Rose Ann belongs to him, giving my wife a kiss sometimes can be a challenge if Tanks is with her, and Tanks is always with her.
Tanks wishes to thank everyone for following his story, He wishes the best to all of you.
Sincerely.
Tanks, Rose Ann & Arty
