Default Skittles doesn't like to share

I went into my daughter's room this morning to make sure she was getting ready for school. She had the birds out and was loving on Peanut. Skittles was NOT happy about it! She was telling Emily off, stomping up and down the boing and lunging at them. (1st pic) At 1 point, Jayden came into the room and let 1 of the dogs in. Emily told the dog to go out and turned to shut the door after him. Skittles flew over to Emily, bit her, then flew back to the boing (2nd pic). Emily put down Peanut, but Skittles was still mad at Emily and wouldn't let her pick her up. So Emily ignored her for a bit. Skittles finally decided she was done being mad and allowed Emily to give her morning cuddles. (3rd and 4th pic) After that, she was happy to sit on the boing with the tiels and preen herself. (last pic)

HAHA! What a cute story! Does she take care of the birds on her own? It sure looks like they love her to death!

She mostly takes care of Peanut, Sydney and Skittles on her own. She changes their papers, cleans their cages every weekend and feeds them their dry foods/changes their water every night. During the day while she's at school, I feed them fresh foods etc. and interact with them some. I of course also take care of them if she spends the night at a friends' house etc. (a lot of times she calls me to make sure I remembered to feed her birds while she's away!) Jasmine is also HER cat - and she feeds/waters her every day and takes care of her litter box all on her own. She's a pretty responsible 12 yr. old (she also works out at the barn 4x a week to help pay for her lessons). Of course - there are times I have to remind her about changing the papers or cleaning on the weekends - but she never does it begrudgingly. I think for her - it's not even about having "chores" to do - but it's about what they need to be healthy and happy. She adores them.

I love to go into her room in the morning to waker her up. Peanut is usually running back and forth on the bottom of his cage, wings up, staring at Emily calling out - "good boy, good boy! Step up!" and making kissing noises at her.

Thanks - Emily's going to kill me when she finds out I posted pics of her before she had a chance to wash her face and brush her hair! LOL But they were just so cute of her and Skittles - I just couldn't help myself!

very cute - sounds like you have a smart girl there... congrats.... i'm always amazed by the differences - some 12yr olds can't even function properly, others just blow you away with their smartness and sense of responsibility... i tend to give the parents credit for that so, good job, steph

Great photo journal there.
It's kind of sad to see the pet go thru such angst & jealousy. If you don't mind me saying, I'd talk it over with your daughter & see if you both can find a solution so Skittles could calm down & get over this jealousy - maybe the order of attention has to change. It would be most unhappy to have the Tiel hurt.

My cat was terribly jealous of Laker our Budgie - i had to hold her & give her lots of love whenever he was around. She relaxed quite a bit, knowing my love wasn't really divided, just some extra for the new guy.
