Love your description, Steph! I can close my eyes and actually see him doing this, right down to his "pleased with himself" look. It's so interesting to watch them experience new things, isn't it?

It is fun to see him exploring and figuring out new things. When I let him out this morning he went straight for the boing, no hesitation. I can tell he's really starting to settle in. He was pretty vocal and screaming A LOT the first 3 days. Yesterday and today - he starts screaming when I leave the room, I just call back to him and tell him I'll be back in a little bit, then he settles down. I also noticed last night and this morning that when he's out and I come near - he doesn't run away. He stays where he is and listens while I talk to him and is eating the millet readily from my hand now.

Checked out the happy hut, was able to cut the loose strings and it looks in good shape still. Will make sure to get it out every few days and check it over real good.

P.s. - I swear Skittles is already starting to say "Rico!" My daughter and I heard her last night after we covered her. I guess it wouldn't surprise me. He says his name all the time and if I'm out in the hallway or other rooms and I hear him talking I call his name. But it's still funny to hear Skittles say it so soon. Now if we could just figure out all the other things she's mumbling. Every night right after we cover her - she goes on this long mumbling fit - it sounds like a really long sentence - but we can't figure any of it out yet.

I was going to ask about Skittles. How old is the new bird? - i haven't kept in touch sorry. This is very exciting - having 2 Quakers & a boy & girl to boot.

Skittles is good. She called to Rico the 1st day he was here - but hasn't really since then. It will be a few more weeks before we actually let them see one another. We're getting ready to DNA (I'm not even positive Skittles is a she!) so we'll find out for sure what we have. Rico is supposedly about 2 yrs. old. Skittles is probably closer to 3.

Do you plan on housing them together if they become good friends? Just curious.

I'm interested to hear how things go between Skittles and Rico!

Not planning on them sharing a cage, but I guess 1 never knows. Would like them to be able to share out of cage time, but it just depends on whether or not they would get along. Skittles is actually pretty easy going with the other birds. She'll sit on top of the tiels cage with them or on a play gym. We supervise closely of course. Rico isn't used to being around other birds. The previous home had a parakeet - but I think they said the cages were in separate rooms and they never really saw each other. It will be interesting to see what Rico's reaction is to the other birds here.
