Question TWO Of them???

Can you put two parrotlets in the same cage if they are both male or both female? Is it wise to have two or is it bad?

I'll leave it to the p'let people to answer if two males are better than male to female - I don't know that since I've never had p'lets. You would want to start with a new bird in a different cage for the quarantine and until they can get used to each other and determine if they like each other (there's no quarantee that the two will get along).

I have no P'let experience either, but I've heard it said that they are somewhat akin to miniature Amazons. They can be quite aggressive and territorial. With a male and female, you run into breeding concerns, or the possibility of incompatibility. Even if they bond, overpreening can be a problem.

That makes 3 of us, as I don’t have personal knowledge of these cute little birds either, but have read that they are great pets for the owner who has one. If you want two, you might consider getting them at the same time to avoid territorial issues and it might be best to get two of the same sex, don't think that it makes a difference whether it is two males or two females. Not sure what species of Parrotlet you are considering, but the Pacific is known to attack even larger birds without regard for their small size. Hopefully someone who has owned one or more will check in.

Lots of people do it, they just have to meet and get to know each other separately first. They do not always get along. You always have to be careful when birds meet.

Sally - are P'lets more difficult than most? Buddy's health & happiness is doubtlessly at stake here.

Everyone said Budgies are easy - but I still worried tons & it wasn't really a smooth transision.
With Budgies you usually don't have attacking issues.

I think I have desided against it. I mean not all together getting another parrotlet but, trying to put them together. I just really want a male blue one too. LOL I will just wait and get one later when we have more space. That is the reason I asked if they could be in the same cage. I dont want Buddy to have any problems because I bring another bird in here and expect him to accept it. So, i'll wait. ~Jenna
