#1 | | | Why do I do this to myself? So, theres this pet store I go to from time to time mainly because they are close. Also, they are only one of 2 stores here that sell Lory nectar and they have coupons in the local clipper magazine that makes it really cheap.
Anyways, I went in today for crickets for the lizards. They dont really do much in the way of birds. They mostly deal with aquariums and reptiles, but they had a Hans Macaw and a Sulfer crested too.
The Hans was so sweet. He/she climbed right up on me and kissed my cheek and sat on my hand and waved to me and chatted away. He was pretty nippy and didnt like hands, but he was well manored and could be worked with easily. Of course the owner has a big sign that says TAME and TALKS. There is a difference between well manored and tame and second off, he doesnt say words, he just chatters and makes cute noises. The owner makes it sound like a toy.
What pisses me off is the owners attitudes. I asked about him and first off, I felt like they could really care less someone was showing an interest. They seemed anoyed that I wanted to know if they new anything about its past. Aparantley, some guy moved and droped them off to them. The Hans is 5 years old they said. He has no toys at all and seemed so happy to get out of the cockatiel cage for a minute.
Now, I have no intention of getting another bird right now, but since they got the birds for free, I thought maybe they would just be interested in a small asoption fee and I would be able to help find a good home.
NOPE! They want 500 bucks. I gasped at the guy. A hand fed baby sells for 800.
The owners attitude just bugged me. I asked if he would take 300 (out of curiosity really) and he laughed at me. He told me he could get 9 if he really wanted to.
I explained about vet bills and stuff and he went on to tell me that disease is not a worry anymore with birds because they arent wild caught anymore.
I walked out of there so livid and feeling so bad for that poor bird with so much potential. |

I just had 2 cockatiels given to me that I adopted out. I know my limits financially and otherwise.
I was simply sharing my experience. |
