We've turned Bailey into a blabbering big bird!

When we brought him home, he would make silly utterings that sounded like he was saying "BLAH!", so then Joe and I would follow up exclaiming, "BLAH!".

Now Bailey just mainly says "BLAH!" alllllllllllllllllllllllll the time. He says "step up", and occasionally "hi", he used to say "I love you". Also another thing he does a lot os makes this weird babbling...not even like he's practicing talking, just like babbling like a young baby. Like high-pitched "do do do do doooo"s and of course the "blah blah blah"s in different pitches....

Should I just give him a break. He IS only 9 months old. Perhaps instead of saying "blah" anymore, we should replace it with words?

Oh he also tells the dog, "NO!" and tells Prinny to "shut up" (I know, we're bad...but if you have never lived with a Patagonian Conure then you just wouldn't understand!) when she starts her screaming episodes.

I think more people tell their birds to shut up than admit it. I tell Occy and Afa both to shut up, and Mr Buddy tells them to shut up too! Try good phrases or words, like good boy, good girl, stuff like that. Im teaching Mr Buddy our phone number, just in case...GOD forbid!

Missi, teach him to whisper. My two caught onto it real quick. So when he yells "BLAH" whisper "Hi" to him. They quiet down to hear you and it shouldn't take long at all for him to learn how to whisper and repeat. My AV gets such a kick out the birds whispering "Hi" to her when she walks into the room.

Hahahah that's too funny! Harley says BLAHHHHHHHHH all the time too!!! She also says a bunch of other stuff...and whispers...but loves to yell BLAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Hehe cute, ok I don't tell my birds shut up, although my kids do. I guess my birdies may use the words - "enough already". I say in a tone loud enough to get attention, my bad. The suns can get seriously loud.

Whispering does work only it seems one on one, when the entire flock is shouting they ignore me. Peanut puts his beak in my ear and then whispers.

Sometimes I wish Boca only said Blah. All he does is talk.

Okay, I'm so glad I didn't get yelled at for posting that I tell my fids to shut up sometimes...I felt reeeeeeally bad admitting that to the public, but hey...I'm honest. A lot of the times I say, "HUSHHHHH!" though.

IMO....Baily is mimicking Missi. If you ever met her you would know what I'm talking about. Missi's bubbly personality and gift of gab has worn off on that poor, poor, spoiled baby.
