Default peeling beak

Hi there! I have a question. Ruby chipped off some of her beak a couple of months ago. Tonight I noticed she is playing at it with her tongue. It is bothering her it seems and it is lifting up some. Is this normal? Advice would be so appreciated. Thanks!

I'm surprised she is not rubbing her perch or chewing wood to take care of the flaking. Maybe she is and what you are seeing is the residue from rubbing. If she is not chewing, give her some small wood block to get her started.

Do you have a sandy perch? My guys rub the sides of their beaks to keep them smooth. Both cockatoos have flaky beaks though.

Thanks ya'll. That was quick! This seems like a thick piece. She has a sandy perch and rubs some on that for the thin pieces but this seems rather thick to me. I think I will let the vet look at her on monday. I've never had such a big beak before.
