Default My Red-fronted Macaw Chloe

Okay, so I don't remember what I have posted about her on here, if anything, so I'll share her story...

I found out about Chloe on Hoobly.com. I was actually looking to rehome a 6 year old male RFM, but the lady changed her mind about rehoming him. Her owner at the time was rehoming her because she had purchased too many macaw chicks (she had a B&G and a GW, & young CAG, BE2, OWA). She felt that tiny baby Chloe did not fit into her flock, so was rehoming her. So whatever...her loss, my gain Joe & I drove 8 hours round trip to pick her up on Florida's central-east coast.

She would take 2 feedings from me a day, now she is down to one a day, but still quite a fussy demanding baby.

I WAS considering eventually outdoor freeflight for Chloe, however she is not 100% interested in her flight recall, ascending/descending...so I'll just fly her on harness and line.

Here are some photos of my little darling...

She's cute as pie I'm very interested to hear your experiences with her never being clipped and what kind of differences you see with her as she grows & matures.

Ooooh, love babies! Chloe is adorable, RFMs are such hovering birds in flight, I really enjoy watching them. Our Roseta will fly to us and just hover near us before landing for 2-3 minutes. When Chloe sits on your shoulder, does she want "snap off" your earrings?

Thank you all for the nice comments on my baby girl. She was hatched on May 29th, so she is a little over 3 months old. Still very much needing her formula. So I will offer her formula every evening until she stops begging for it (NO force-weaning here!).

Things I have noticed about Chloe compared to the other fids when they were her age, possibly due to being flighted:

Definitely more out-going and self-assured.
Less nippy, since she can fly away if she does not want something, rather than feeling "stuck" and biting as a last resort...

That's about it so far, but I'm sure I will notice more as she matures more. I will take note of the changes.

She is SUCH a little velcro-bird. when ever I leave the room, she contact call a couple times, then fly to find me. She's almost mastered flying around corners, and, as JR said, I love to watch her hover. I have noticed it in my Patagonian Conure as well, as they are both cliff nesters.

She has not yet tried to snap off my earrings! She's usually a good girl and just sits on my shoulder and looks around. However, if she ever tried to gnaw on my earrings, she would get a surprise because they're surgical steel 4 gauges...but they do have swarovski crystals on them, that I'm sure she could remove

I really just love this baby. She really reminds me of a Cockatoo as far as the cuddliness goes, she is ALL about cuddling and she smells soooooo good *sigh* Her beautiful colors just take my breath away!

JR, I would love to see photos of your Roseta. I just love that name, too

Missi, you have a beautiful bird on your hands. It appears she does not mind the harness at all.

Keep the pictures coming!!

Ah yes, AND I believe she should get her red-front on her forehead and more red/orange on her wing shoulders after her first molt. Is that correct, JR?

That is my understanding although we got Roseta at 4 years. From what I read you are right that their shoulders don't get red until around six months after their first molt and full coloration until they reach maturity at 2 years.
