I know babies play hard and dont know how to preen expertly, but Jewel is such a mess.. LOL

She only has one full tail feather left.... The rest are ragedy half feather that she broke, and one or 2 that are falling off any second now...

Will she eventually learn to take care of herself?

Silly bird is gonna be the only tailless macaw I know.

Ollie had about 3 tail feathers for the longest time. She was such a clumsy baby and played so hard (didn't help that her stupid breeder clipped her before she fledged) that she just couldn't keep from breaking them! She finally had a beautiful fully feathered tail and kept it that way until last week when she broke 4 feathers.

If I was a macaw I think I'd break them out on purpose...dragging and maneuvering that long thing around has to get awfully bothersome!

ivy is surprisingly mindful of her tail feathers, very careful with them.

artemis on the other hand i can't remember the last time he had a full tail! he always has 3-4 tail feathers at a time. so sad looking!

Alex had a beautiful tail grow in after only having 2 feathers for the longest time. Then he broke 2 and barbered 2 for what reason Im not sure. So he has a few but the look like crap.

Tailless macaws seem to be the norm around here :-). As youngins, they play HARD, and don't seem to care much about their tails--except Bowie, who must be a vain little boy, 'cause he takes real good care of his tail :-).
