Default Male - Female sensitive

Are macaws maybe B&G sensitive to the opposite sex thing like a grey is?

I was just wondering if me being female would need a male macaw like I would chose a grey or does it not matter? Most greys seems to get on better with humans of the opposite sex.

I have sun conures and they dont seem to care about this. The males are just a little more rowdy than the females. The budgies dont seem to have a preference either.

Thanks Angie

I feel it depends on the bird and how it was raised. Our B&Gs will go to either of us with no problem. Although I know a family that have two older B&Gs that are definitely male/female preferenced. Her bird will strike out when the husband tries to pick him up and His bird will strike at her whether the husband is there or not.

I don't think any bird is male or female sensitive. I have a number of birds - both males and females - and they are all bonded to me.

I have a male and a female also, they are both very bonded to me. Both are not bonded to my husband at all, and if given the chance would take a serious nibble! I think it's a person preference over a male/female preference.

I HAVE met gender sensitive birds for sure. I have owned them and met them in stores. HOWEVER I don't think it is per species, I think it is per individual. It is also NOT just gender...

For example, I was loving on a BG at a store.... A couple walks by, the bird puffed up and helloed the female, lunged at the male. My husband was walking toward me; I warned him quickly that the bird did not like men. Sure enough, the bird tried to eat my husband alive. The BG continued to repeat the process for every male and female that walked by.

I knew a GCC once that abosolutely hated women. ALL women.

I knew a cherry head conure that HATED tall people.

My own Tiki, I have to admit, also has a predjudice of her own. She is scared by dark skinned people. ANYONE dark skinned, even a very tan caucasian. My family is white as white can be; I suppose it makes sense in the animal world of color... that she prefers what she is used to.

I don't think that female birds bond to male humans and male birds bond to female humans. While some individuals have gender sensitivity, I don't think it matters on a whole... it only matters who spends the most time with them.

The bird most bonded to me is female, I am female too.

Thank you birdyland that answered my question. The only time I have experienced extreme gender sensitive is among CAG. Every grey I know has a preference for a particular gender and not nessesarily the person who spent time and raised it. Out of about 10 only 1 attacks the wrong sex. Most just choose to be uncooperative and untalkative with the wrong gender.
