#2 | | | Re: Macaw people Our first macaw was a cute little Yellow Collar which we rescued from a bird store where he was biting everyone who tried to get him out of his cage including the staff! We took him in, built trust (after bloody bites), and socialized him. We became enamored with the little guy, he is cute, very active, independent and socialized easily (after the bites!). We did research on macaws and learned that they have the type of personality that fits into our lifestyle. They loved to be loved, but are flexible, independent and active which we enjoy. We learned that we really enjoy the large macaws as well, some we rescued, some came to us as babies, and some we added because we just love those macaws! |

As a Pet Sitter I have cared for many Budgies, Tiels, Greys, Alexandrines, Ekkies, Cockatoos, Scarlets, Greenwings & Hyacinths. I wasn't looking for a bird and didn't have any plans to own a bird.
During an assignment at a breeders home, I walked into the first bird room and there sat this GW that was new to the living situation there.
In all my years and all my years of pet care, this had never happened before, it was a surreal experience. He looked into my eyes and literally talked to my soul. He needed me and the rest is history. |

In our other rooms we either have a huge play gym or large macaw cages in front of the windows out 1 - 2 feet from the window. They fly to the gyms or cage tops. You can get the Bird Safe decals too so you can see out but birds see the leaves. |

Even back then, Bob didn't cotton to strangers, but after a month or so he changed his mind and started regurgitating for me. Then one day I walked in, and the M2 girl was sold. So that sealed it for me, and we purchased Bob. It was the best choice I ever made--not only do I adore my strikingly BEAUTIFUL blue and gold Goon, but it turns out I'm deathly allergic to cockatoos, nowadays.
I think Macaws combine the best of everything--they're beautiful, smart, fun, active and loving. I can't imagine living life without them. |
