I have nothing to add - I did however enjoy reading the whole thing. abc - i stopped my Mom's hen Tiel from hopping onto my shoulder because the little busybody was a nipper.
Ah Phyllis you have a little earner there...organic piercing! I don't like Dusty on my shoulder when I cut vegies...she hangs by her claws off my T-shirt shoulder and pinches bits...voom there goes carrot...zoom there goes capsicum....she has to stay on her stand and get given bits to chew.
I don't have any macaws because my birdroom is too small for them (only 25 ft long while macaws need a minimum of 30 ft to fly) but I allow anybody who wants to perch on my shoulder to do it. Even the ones that bite hard. I believe that you have to give trust in order to receive it and that everybody should be treated equally so, if I allow one to do it, I have to allow all of them. So I do.
To sit on my shoulder you have to earn the privelege (sp?) in my house. all of mine will nip and have left their marks on me, mostly thru my lack of attention to their signals. when they are on your shoulder, you can't get the visual half of their signals so your are at least 1/2 step behind in rxn time. I am currently wearing a lovely nose scab curtesy of Serita...saying goodnight to the babies, making the rounds...love you babies, mama loves you even when you bite her..." SSNNAAAATCH thru the bars....and I have a nose ornament for a few days. tho my little M2 scab picker (Peachie) should take care of that later today
