Default Jewels had a bad week

the other morning I woke up and noticed on Jewels right face patch, she had a really nasty bruise. She didnt seem to be boithered by me touching it, and its already looking much better, but it was really aweful looking. The vet said she probably knocked into a toy playing rough or maybe fell in the cage at some point.

Then the real pannic. Last night, I came home and Jewel was hanging upside down from the top of her cage very calmly. Its a normal site, she loves to hang and play. Then I realized she was too calm. There was a chain from a toy wrapped around her foot. I almost burst into tears right then. For the most part she was calm with letting me help, but she did give me a few big nips as I suspect it probably hurt. It was my own fault. There was a toy ontop of the cage that she chewed the wood off of and the chain was hanging down through the bars and I hadnt noticed. I calmly suported her in one hand on her back while I unhooked the quicklink and loosened the chain with the other hand. As soon as she was free, it was like nothing happened. Shes not favoring either foot. It was a little red last night, but looks normal this morning. The scarey part is thinking what could have happened. How long was she stuck like that? What was she thinking? Oh, my poor baby!!

Josh it's not your fault. Thankfully she remained calm and was in a position where she was comfortable and didn't get hurt. She probably nipped because you put a little pressure on the chain to get it off. If it's not swollen and it doesn't seem to bother her I would just keep an eye on it for a couple of days.

I'm very careful of checking toys, especially rope toys, because about 10 years ago my b&g Riley hung herself. Thank God my Mom was home and was able to get the rope off from around her neck, since then I'm careful with rope toys.

This is a good reminder for everyone to check their fids toys and to make sure they can't get hooked on anything that'll cause them harm.

Don't beat yourself up over this Josh.. your a good Parront!

Josh as Jeanne said this is not your fault. Toys can be so dangerous ,we have to inspect their toys all the time, sadly there are so many dangerous toys being sold, and we think they are ok since they are on the shelves for sale.
I am glad everything turned out ok and your baby was not seriously hurt.
Its good when things like this happen that people post so that it brings others aware to the dangers in toys.

It's ok sweet Josh. She knew you were going to come to her rescue! Ruby once got a piece of her metal toy chain stuck on her beak and I saw her sitting there and then 30 minutes later I thought "why is she still sitting there". Sure enough she was in peril! They know we are coming to help.

I'm glad she's ok. That's great that both you and Jewel were able to remain calm - kudos to you for that! It is scary that toys can be dangerous, and it is a good reminder to us all to take a look at what's hanging in our cages (whether it be the entire toy or the remains of a toy).

Wow Josh, what a scary thing. It's not your fault at all, things can happen in a split second. Maple once got her wing jammed in between the bars on the top of Harley's cage flipping back upright from playing on her back. Luckily she also stayed calm and freed herself. But my point is....anything...ANYTHING can happen. I am so glad she is OK. You are a great Dad!

Poor Jewel, what a scary week. Good thing she knows that Dad will come to the rescue and stays calm and quiet. Thanks for giving her (and the rest of the family) that trust.

Poor baby & poor you. Its terrible to see a bruise on such a pretty face.

Bruises can be embarrassing as well as distressful - My son fell in our small bathroom - onto the electrical heater - when he was about 3 & of course a few days before a doctor's visit. The doctor had a student in training there too. You should have seen their faces when they saw the bruise across his chest. It was all I could do to stop them calling the cops!
