So now that I'm home all the time I work with Jack daily on his step ups using a stick. We've made some progress, he gets one out of every ten. Yesterday he met the entire flock an was a bit overwhelmed.
Today I wasn't feeling well (tired an my foot was more swollen then it had been) so I was watching tv in bed. All the fids downstairs were fed and covered an Jack was still playing on his cage in my office.
In a voice I've never heard before Jack was saying "step up you f'n bird", "step the f up", an so on for about five minutes. It scared the hell out of me because I was watching Ghost Hunters in the dark!
This explains a bit of Jacks past. He doesn't like his feet touched an doesn't know any commands. I'll have to use more rewards when working with him to reassure him that he's okay.
When we get rescues, we never know what to expect. LOL It is great you are with Jack more now and can work with him more. Hope your injury is improving, Jeanne.
oh my goodness, poor jack it makes me SO sad to read things that birds repeat from their "past lives". i am SO happy you found him. i am glad he is making progress.
I agree, it is very sad. But at least that gives you an idea of what Jack has gone through. Hopefully that will help some while working with him. It sounds like you're doing a great job Jeanne! Thank God you found him!
Breaks my heart. I am thankful he has you now. You are the best of the good eggs! In fact you are probably a chocolate Easter egg!!!! Tell Jack Ruby says "step-up sweetie pie!" Hope you feel better today. Stay off that foot! Jessalyn
Those words 'are' sad...but also revealing and give understanding as to what you're up against. Kindness and patience overcomes all that, but then you know that already. Thanks so much for what you're doing with this mistreated soul.
