Talking beak bonking is this normal

It is me again with another question I couldn't find this in the books. Keke has on occasion usually when you get close to her cage bonking(don't know if I my spelling is right) you on the head with her beak. She doesn't open her beak just hits you usually on the head. She did it to me today for the first time when I was cleaning her cage. She has done it to my hubby and son when the have been playing with her on her cage as well as other places. I thought she was just happy or getting a little excited. Is this normal or is she just as weird as the rest of the family. One other question she won't let me touch her in the evening when Leo is home or she will only let me have limited contact she is content to sit with me and often wants to come to me. In contrast during the daytime she is happy to allow me to touch her and scritch her just not when the sun goes down. I will keep trying in the evening I am not too worried about this as she is still getting used to having so much attention from her human family. I know each of us will have a different kind of relationship with her and she is still working out what that will be. Any thoughts

Good question. Jasmine's favorite perch is a-top my head, and sometimes she'll be sitting up there and all the sudden "bonk" me with her beak several times...I thought it was just that she wanted my undivided attention

How cute! Ruby doesn't bonk but she does like to wipe her beak off on me.

I've not seen this behavior, just the beak rubbing. Maybe she's just trying to get your attention or it's a mannerism of play she's adopted. I'll be interested in hearing if you notice any other occasion that she does this or if you can figure out a connection.

Does she let Leo touch her in the evening? I was thinking if she didn't maybe she's getting tired. The sun sets so early these days it really does limit the evening play time, when they're ready for bed and not play.

You are so right! It's so nice to read your posts, you are very considerate and open to what her needs are and what they may be as she adjusts to her new life.

I don't have birds who beak bonker, but it could be a request for attention or to play. Try different things with Keke and see the response. You can see what works and what doesn't. I am convinced that the word "normal" doesn't work as each bird is different. Keep us updated.

I don't have macaw or beak bonkers. Quite a few of the birds, rub the beaks on perches or me, as a sign of possession or warning to other birds. A sort of sharpening the beak action, its not the normal beak shaping that they do.
