Here's a story. Yesterday a woman came to my door and said "do you have a net?" A net for what!?! she said there was a duck in the lake with a hook through it's mouth. I said "I don't have a net, but I have a 16 year old son that might get in the lake! lol So off we went and sure enough some stupid fisherman had thrown a whole wad of line with a hook in the water and it was attached to a log and the poor little thing was hooked through it lower beak. We (my son) got her out and we used wire cutters to cut it and pulled it through. 2 little kids wanted to pet her so I thought, why not. They said she was soft. Then we released her and you have never seen a happier duck! she walked on water! then bathed and shook her happy tail! We fed her a loaf of wheat bread and she was on her way! I love happy endings! Don't you!

ps Ruby was peeved because she had to stay inside during this! haha
Good for you!!! We've gone on several duck rescues and ours were not easy. One a mother duck had almost a dozed chicks following her across 6 lanes of Interstate 295. As we approached traffic was stopped and a woman was on the south bound side trying to wrangle up babies while mommy was crossing the north bound side. We pulled over got out, and got them off to the side. A State Trooper pulled up and gave us a bunch of crap for holding up traffic. Go figure.
Yes, bless your heart, Please thank your son for me, he is a very kind concerned young man.
I found your story very heart warming, there's a little life out there that is extremely grateful, as well am I.
Peace
Arty
That's a wonderful story...unfortunately there aren't enough people out there who would have reacted the same way! Good on you...and your son...obviously 2 very caring individuals....THANKS! I am sure that duck was very thankful.
Here are photos of my dog Molly and Daffy Duck, we rescued him 4 years ago.
My grandson found him abandoned at two days old with a grass seed stuck in his eye. He was a Paradise shelduck. I kept him in the hot water cupboard overnight and under my jumper all day for a week. We fed him on floating fish food in water until he would eat corn mash. He was so friendly until he took to biting toes and bare feet !! He would stand on guard with the dog on the driveway and all the kids coming home from school would pet him. He even came in the house, he would tap on the glass door to come in, and what a mess he made !!
We had him for two years before he got bumped by a neighbors car and died of shock. I cried for days !!

What sweet photos Chrissy! When I was in high school I worked at a vet clinic where we often boarded a pair of pet ducks for an elderly couple. We kept them in the calf room- indoors, but entirely cement so it could be hosed down. Boy do they make one heck of a mess!
