The feral feline issue is a no win situation for small animals (mainly song birds) and for the feline.
We as tax payers complain about the costs to keep our animal shelters up and running, but when it comes down to affirmative action to solve and or (make a difference) most turn there backs and walk away.
This is a man made virus, a plague, and believe me if this virus was harming mankind, you can believe mankind would rush right in to contain the virus and eliminate it, and keep it from spreading again.
But since it only seems to effect wildlife....who really cares?
The feline was brought into this country to help control the rodent population, this (idea) alone has set the fate for wildlife, the rodent isn't the only thing on the stray felines menu.
And folks seem to think, Its okay to allow sylvester to roam freely, they kill animals, thats what they do...and thus...ITS OKAY!
The programs such as TNR, these folks seem to think by neutering a cat the problem will go away, little do they know they are only fueling a problem that has been well out of control.
I have live trapped my neighbors cat 3 times now, on the cats 3rd visit, I took the cat to a shelter 50 miles from here, seems my neighbor was bailing his cat out, but not learning anything by doing so.
He came over to talk, "my cat is gone again", I said "really thats to bad", he said, "he isn't at the shelter, I wonder what happened to him".
I said, "if you really cared about your pet cat you wouldn't be standing here WORRIED".
"Oh well" he said "I'll just get another one" and walked away.
Thats common...most just up and walk away....
One day the trees will fall silent.
Grandma with her grandchild sitting on her lap, both are looking at pictures in grandmas photo album, the child says, what are all those things on the ground grandma?, oh, those were birds that used to come here and eat, "what are birds grandma?". |
