Nate - prayers going your direction for these wonderful little creatures.

Your post made me think of something. My brother and sister-in-law have their back yard landscaped to attract hummingbirds. One might see 10 at one time while sitting in their gazebo. We were all wondering what happens to them when the weather becomes cold. Can you answer this? I assume they migrate South?

Yes, they do migrate, to Mexico & South America. I'm pretty sure that ruby throats fly over the Gulf of Mexico. The hummingbirds in the west - I'm not so sure about.

Global warming is having a very adverse effect on wildlife, there are reports of many migratory birds returning from the south much earlier than normal.
We had 90 degree weather here in Minnesota for 2 days then the next few days were below freezing.
Even though your little friends are very small and very fragile I wouldn't worry to much, (very honorable) of you Nate, if the cold weather hangs in there for more than a weeks time I would be concerned, but if things warm up within a few days time, all will be okay.
Please be sure to keep those feeders full, nurishment is vital to there survival.
Nectur is energy, energy helps keep our little friends WARM.
Thank you for being concerned about our wildlife, I am sure your little friends will come to you for food as soon as possible, they are very (mysterious).
We see alot of Bee Hummingbirds here, they are the smallest bird in the world, Many times I have thought they were bumble bees.
Peace

I haven't had a chance to watch for them today, but kept an eye out yesterday and never saw one. We ended up with about 2 inches of snow, which melted by afternoon, but it has remained cold and rainy since. 38 degrees currently, with a cold drizzle. Tomorrow its supposed to be a little warmer, but still rainy. I hope they're all right. We have had years like this (when it turns off cold and wet) where they have disappeared, and we haven't seen anymore for several weeks. Really don't know if it means they get killed off or not, certainly hope not. Ours are all Ruby Throated here.
