Default My latest rescue/Barn Swallow

This little one is close to fledge, I filled his/her wittle tummy and placed into the cage.
This little one can really hang onto things...little bugger.
The person that re-homed Pickles with us called, she donated 40 grams of Baytril and a care package with wing wraps and gause and such first aid helpers, then said "guess what", my friend found this little bird on the ground in her barn, poor little one was amung many barn cats...
I said "well" we can't have that...LOL

At least his last little moments were spent knowing what it is to be loved and cared for, and not alone.

Thanx Arty

I'm so sorry Arty. Thank you for making the final moments for this little one comforting.

The wife said the little bird had died, so I went to bury the little one this morning and found he/she wasn't dead after all, but a very very good little faker.
I held the little one for quite some time and filled the crop this morning, the keel bone is very prominate, this little one may have internal injuries and is very weak from lack of nutrition, being in the house just makes things worse.
Soooo, I moved the cage outside, this little one played dead to protect him/herself.

Now he/she is all over in the cage, but something isn't right, according to the pictures I found to identify the little one (this is an adult bird), I am thinking this bird has been attacked by a preditor and was injured during the fall, I found a small wound on the back of his/her head this moring while rinsing off the excess kaytee, I applied a little neosporin to the wound.
This is such a tiny bird, he she can fly but only a few feet then down he she goes.
Both wings work so its hard to say just what is happening here.
Any Feedback would be appreciated.

I wonder if it could be suffering from the effects of cat saliva, Arty. Didn't you say it had been rescued in a barn from barn cats? Also was wondering, being a swift or swallow, aren't they insect eaters? Does a regular handfeeding formula work for them equally well as for seed eaters?

Good points, I am looking at the stools and am finding them to be healthy in nature, however the nutrients needed may not be found in the Kaytee.
I try not to hold the little one to much but feel it has to be done, you maybe correct about the saliva issue.
I am thinking about half a cc of baytril added into some Gatorade may prove to help.
What ya think?

I think it might be worth a try, Arty. As to dosage, I have no experience there so would defer to your judgment. I wonder if some mushed up mealworms in the formula might be good?

Edited to add: Not sure when the parents start serving captured insects in lieu of regurgitated food, but I'm thinking it might be fairly early on.
